I’m wearing my Tokyo 2020 Panda right now with the newer style bracelet that I sourced. Maybe my favorite watch. The white dial speedie is nice though.

I’ve never been a Speedy fan. But this one, which I bought about three weeks ago, I found irresistible. I wouldn’t say no to the white dial SS Daytona if my AD offered it to me, for sure. But the white Speedy is an excellent and beautiful watch. (And the comments about its not being adequately water resistant are unfounded. Omega says so (a watch can’t meet METAS standards or NASA’s if it isn’t water resistant). Lots of Speedy owners say so. And, after having swum in the Aegean Sea and two pools with mine two week ago, I say so, too.)

I like your Tokyo panda even more than this new white dial speedy

Both great watches.

I’ll borrow a maxim from sports though…

“The best ability is availability”.

If I walked into a Rolex/Omega AD and they had both available at retail, I’d take the Daytona. There is just something about a ceramic bezel combined with black outlined subdials that just make it incredible.

However, the realization is:

1. I’ll never be offered a SS Daytona (any color).
2. I will never pay such an exorbitant gray premium for a SS Daytona. If I am spending $30k+ for a Daytona, it will be gold.

That’s why I appreciate the Speddy so much for what it is. I just moved on from a black dial 3861 and there is a good chance that money will help fund a white dial 3861.

Rolex (other than celini) are all WR watches with screw down crown. And of course, daytona has white gold and Speedy does not.

That being said, I handled it in Omega boutique in Vegas back in July and its a great and better looking watch. The white dial is lacquered and the black accents are slightly polished. It pops more than daytona.

But having a pool and hot tub in my backyard, I prefer watches with screw down crown.
Two things here. First, the Speedmaster is 50 meters water resistant not 30. Second, 50 meters means 50 meters. You can swim with a Speedmaster just fine.

From Omega: All current OMEGA watches are water resistant to the depth defined by the model specifications, provided that the components ensuring the water resistance are intact. This means that an OMEGA watch that is water resistant to 30 metres can be worn for swimming at depths of up to 30 metres underwater for extended periods without restriction.

Yep.

I just don’t understand why people keep saying this. Archer (who is an Omega watchmaker over on the Omegaforums.net) has debunked this misinformation time and time again.

It’s a special edition limited to 2020 pieces for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (which didn’t take place until 2021 due to the pandemic). It comes with the last generation bracelet but i sourced the new speedy bracelet and it fits perfectly. The dial is technically silver but it very much reads as a panda dial. I’d post a picture but I always have trouble doing so on this site. I love the watch. I call it the Pandamic

They are both nice watches, beautiful in their own way, Daytona will have my vote but I'd like the white Speedy and a black Daytona combo.

As far as I'm concerned you're talking about two different watches even though they both are chronometers and chronographs the Rolex is a superlative chronometer the Omega is a master chronometer both exceed cosc. neither has a date. The Rolex is far more desirable. i do like the look of the Omega and as I've stated it's a master chronometer meaning 0 to 2 seconds per day accuracy. It's far more affordable than the Rolex. However in the world of prestige the Rolex rules. And while I have no proof of this I do believe the Rolex is a lot tougher watch. If I could have both I would if I could only have one it would be the Rolex

I’d prefer the Daytona because the seconds subdial is at 6 o’clock. It just feels more ‘symmetrical’ and right when the chronograph is not running.

White speedmaster is the better looking watch. Add in that you can actually buy it and the decision for me is a no brainer.

I’ve got these. I absolutely love the white dial Speedy. It may be bigger but it wears with a pretty low profile.

The speedy is certainly an amazing piece, bu lets face it: Dark side, white side, pink side, snoopy, 57 Model, Annversary here and there....it has become diluted...
If they only released 3 or so models and made the Hesalite flasghip....it would be nice

ergo, I go with the Panda.////Newman racing heritage is legendary

Yes agree the white Speedy is the better looking watch. If both the Panda Daytona and the white Speedy were both available to buy at AD, most would choose the Speedy in my opinion. The double price of retail and difficulty of obtaining the Panda Daytona plus perceived prestige makes a large percentage of people select it for those reasons and not it's looks in my opinion.

There are 3 white or silver dial Speedy's which are better looking than the Panda. The new white Speedy, the 2020 Tokyo Panda Speedy, the 2020 Tokyo Rising Sun Speedy.

The Daytona looks better overall for me, I’m not saying the speed master isn’t a good looking watch but the Daytona is just better

They're so you do not activate the pushers under water. The watch is wr to 100m with them unscrewed.

Both are great. I like the way the Speedmaster wears because of the larger size. I also like the fact that although the Speedmaster has a great heritage that goes back several decades, it’s still a bit of IYKYK.
I really like both, but there are just so many tools these days running around with a Daytona on who don’t even bother to set it, if you know what I mean. Don’t see that with the Omega.

That's pretty funny

I do like the look of the subdial rings on the Daytona, but the downside of them is the decreased legibility. The hour and minute hands can get sort of "lost" near those rings.

I can tell you as a white dial Speedy owner, the legibility is excellent. A quick glance is all it takes. Can't say the same for the Rolex.

I have tried both and did not really feel either of them. I was gutted when I tried on the Panda as this was my grail watch…. even my wife said as you as you tried the watch on it I could see it was not right. I think some of it was the size of the sub dials and the width of the black surround

I really love my white dial speedy. Way more than I expected to. It has found a consistent and frequent spot in the rotation.

I thought I really wanted a Panda at one point but the hype, the AD games, grey markup etc - have just turned me off to it. I haven’t really paid much attention to it or focused any energy on acquiring one.
