Does the book mention anything about the 5 South African teflon coated submariners delivered in the mid 70s? It is hard to find any information at all about them.

Looks like a really interesting book. I will order it.
If you want more on specific models and technical information I guess you have to order the Mondani Submariner books. But that was never my main interest. More on the general history.

Hopefully Amazon does not further delay the shipment of the book, looking to add it to my modest wristwatch book collection:

Wonder how hard could be to get a copy signed by the author (Nicholas Foulkes); my Rolex Best of Times book (above) is dedicated to me by one of the authors (James Dowling ):

According to the Publisher, this is the first of a series, with other models being covered in future books.

This is what the non silk version looks like. I think the silk version certainly warrants the premium.

I wonder how many of those 81k 16800s were the matte dial variant. I am also surprised of the low production numbers of the 14060s. Those watches were quite popular back in the 90’s (although not anywhere near the popularity of the date version).

They’re not the D-Blue ones, but the number of the 126660
Deepseas produced (Black and Blue dials both)

Book is on its way. That is the standard version, not the silk bound limited edition.

Submariner Book

Looks like Rolex has authorized the publication of production numbers for all of its Submariners through the years.

Why would Rolex be okay publishing these numbers now after all these years?

So why publish the productions numbers after decades of keeping production numbers close to the vest?

Why okay this now?

may be Rolex is trying to decrease the hype by letting everyone know that these are not rare watches and they are producing quite a lot of these? They may have understood that sustaining hype of this level over the long run is not realistic. Smart strategy I would say.

But obviously pure guess.
