Going to Chicago for 4 days. Only want to bring 1 watch.

Going to Chicago for a week. Considering which watch to wear. Staying at a 5 star hotel so not too worried about when we are there. When traveling I like to only wear one watch.

The choices are
1. Yellow gold oyster flex Daytona.
2. SS gmt on jubilee
3 SS green bezel sub.

It’s a family trip so we will be going to different parts of the city. But all relatively safe places. Maj take the kids to the indoor pool.

All 3 of those options standout especially option #1 so for me that one should definitely stay at home. Flip a coin for your choice of the other two options or other than that take something that doesn’t standout

GMT and don’t worry about it. There are tons of nice watches in Chicago.

I made a mistake not brining my GMT to Rome and Positano. It felt totally safe here.

If I were a watch thief, 5 star hotels would be the prime spot to scout for potential victims. I’m curious, why do you feel safe in such a baited place full of wealthy targets?

I feel safe as I would have the watch on my wrist or in the safe. I think the being in the hotels are safer than walking around the streets.

Unfortunately all of my watches pop. I don’t really like boring/ plain watches. Nothing wrong with that but I always like a pop of color.

I would wear any of them (if they are insured) and enjoy your trip with the family. As always, stay vigilant regardless of what watch you are wearing. If I had to pick one, it would be the Sub.

The problem with 5 star hotels is they have high worth clients, and low worth employees. They know how to avoid the cameras, access your rooms, and when you have gone, and when you return. They may act with impunity and are not held responsible. Ask me how I know. You are better off keeping it on your wrist than trusting ANYONE to guard it for you.

Since it is Chicago, bring a Gshock --- leave others in a safe at home.

Last time I was in Chicago in May 2023, I wore a white 116500 the whole time and felt fine. I did a lot of walking around and stayed at a "normal" hotel downtown.

If you aren't going to break out your stainless Daytona, I'd go with the pepsi! That will make a layover in a different timezone a little easier to set your watch.

5 star hotel ? Trouble is, if it's in the downtown area, evening hours it's a 1 star area.

I get the pop of colour being a favourite but that also acts as a magnet for undesirables 5 star hotel or not

This is why I only bring one watch with me. It will stay on my wrist almost all of the time.

When I went last year to visit my sister who had just moved there I was worried and only brought a sky dweller, this sounds ridiculous and I’m kinda kidding but we were at a nice restaurant and I never saw so many nice watches and I was wishing I brought a heavier hitter.
Had a lot of fun watch shopping all over, great visit at RM and really liked the guy at Vacheron and they had amazing watches and amazing pre owned inventory.

What restaurant was it? Chicago is weird as you may be in a really nice area one moment and a few streets down it gets a little sketchy. Plus a lot of transients on the corners.

Chicago isn’t as bad as I thought. We actually really enjoy going and shopping and eating. I stay on and around Michigan Ave and have never felt uncomfortable. You’re going to have a great time. Take your gold Daytona.

I would have asked that but I don’t wear undies. lighten up, it’s a watch forum. Those on here typically like watches and respect the opinions of fellow WIS. I know I do. At the end of the day it’s my decision but I do lean into the advice of my fellow Rolex enthusiast.

Thanks! I’ll have to try that place out. I was wanting to try the Michael Jordan steakhouse, but I’m wondering if it’s actually any good. If I brought 2 watches I think the Daytona would definitely be one of them. But after thinking about it and just bringing one I think I’m leaning towards the GMT.
