Agreed. I have a 7.5" wrist and have comfortably worn a 44mm Panerai and a 46mm IWC Big Pilot.
But in the Datejust/Day-Date realm, the 36mm is ideal because you see the whole package, and the bracelet shines as much as the dial.
For me, it's not a question of size but rather of presence.
