I would go GMT. It does everything from the beach to the swanky dinners. The windy city is easy on a watch.

It's your watch, correct? You're an adult, right? So why do you have to get some random people's opinion as to what you should or should not wear?

If you don't feel "safe", then DON'T bring it. Common sense, no?

Since this is a "watch" forum... I have some rolex printed boxers at home... Should I wear it? TIA!

Defiantly go to Oak Brook mall and see the new two story CDPeacock Rolex store. It even has a cocktail bar on the second floor. Its a mind blowing AD.

Wow, I live three miles from there and go to that mall -- and Rolex ADs -- so infrequently, that I didn't know they had added a second floor!

For steak go to Bavettes. They do accept walkins so I would try that because getting a reservation can be challenging.

The Burcherer Rolex on Michigan Avenue has really nice display pieces and have always been friendly to me. If you go ask for Christopher.

Chicago Cut is really nice - typical Chicago steak place with contemporary decor situated right on the river. Bavette’s is fantastic as well. There are tons of great eating from pizza at Gino’s East, tapas at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba or Peking duck at Shanghai Terrace (in the Pennisula). I’d avoid the MJ restaurant.

I vote the GMT (if it matters). Have a great trip. Weather this time of year should be fantastic.

I go there multiple times (including this weekend) and wear my Pateks, APs and VC. I'm generally around Michigan Avenue and the Loop. I even take the L and have never had any problems. These days, I typically wear long sleeves so watches are more hidden. Now I do know that a Rolex because of the Oyster case is more recognizable than my watches, but you should be fine with any of your watches. Enjoy!

GMT is my vote, but wear what you are comfortable wearing. I grew up in Chicago and although I used to go wherever I wanted on CTA when I was under 12 for $0.25, I wouldn’t go anywhere near public transportation these days.

Based on what you said about where you are staying, wear what YOU want. Like thousands of “is it safe” threads, just be aware of your surroundings.

And if you want a legitimate Chicago beef sandwich, take a hike to Johnnie’s Beef in Elmwood Park on North Avenue. Get a “beef juicy sweet”, unless you like hot things, then order a “beef juicy hot.” Trust me, use the exact words in the quotes for your order.

We just spent a week in Seattle. We stayed at an upscale hotel, but we had to walk by homeless people and hunched-over fentanyl users. I wore my Apple Watch. I knew it would be like that, so we left our Rolex watches at home.

Was like that in Atlanta too. Stayed at the Ritz Carlton and they had homeless and drugged out people just around the corner. I definitely didn’t feel safe nor have I stayed there since.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chicago and stayed at a five-star hotel. I am pleased to report that I did not encounter any issues during my stay. I also wore my yellow gold Sub without any concerns. Regardless of what you choose to bring with you, I believe you will have a positive experience.

But you need other people's approval before you decide on what watch to wear? I would expect that to be common sense. Just like how you would put a pair of (Rolex patterned) underwear. No?

(to keep this watch related and NOT garment, I threw in my Rolex undies to the mix).

It’s just a conversation- he isn’t familiar with Chicago- there’s a lot of bad media about crime etc there. If he had said going to New Orleans I would have told him not to take a watch- only place I go where I will not wear my watches out and about. I had an AP on at a store and I saw some guys notice it and look at me making me very nervous. Another time I had to take off a gold Rolex and put it in my pocket walking home from dinner which was not fun (or smart). These threads are easy to skip if you’re not interested. Have a great weekend everyone

What is your obsession with my underwear? This is a watch forum. I suggest you find a different forum to discuss the stuff you want to talk about.

Who said anything about approval? I was getting suggestions. Big difference.

An approval would be like I’m going to wear my rainbow Daytona to a pool party. Does everyone agree I made the right choice?

A suggestion would be asking fellow WIS what watch they would wear in a situation. As this is a watch forum and every one but you has offered valuable in-site I’m going to end this here. Have a great day!!

I'd go with the GMT for sure, Not sure you would have any problem wearing your Rolex over there, you would definitely find others wearing theirs in Chicago.

Don't let this guy bother you. He's clearly not mature enough to have a civil conversation.
This individual may be experiencing feelings of envy.

Enjoy your trip to Chicago. And make sure you get pizza while you're there.
