Thoughts on new op 41

I am in the hunt for a another watch. A while ago I posted about my grandfathers 1601 that I had some work done too. This is my only Rolex and only real nice watch.

I have my eyes set on a blue dial op 41 in the next few months. I had a chance to buy the watch weeks before Christmas but timing was bad as we had just bought my parents a new furnace. I have 2 boys so I would like to pass them each one later in life. My question is should I look at anything else in the $6k range? Any other brands etc?

We have a pool so being able to swim with it is a huge bonus! I have a 7” wrist and active lifestyle.

Thanks for any thoughts!

You have your eyes on the OP41. My advice is to get what you want. Take your time, let your AD know your interest, build the funds back up, and hopefully you will be ready when they call you.

You are right! I need to stop the “searching”! My AD said they would get it when the time comes.

Before you buy the OP41, try to compare it with an Omega Aquaterra if you can, or perhaps a JLC Master Control Date. I personally didn't find the OP very compelling, kind of underwhelming on my wrist, crown action felt dainty, the piece looked a bit bland and generic, didn't feel like a proper Rolex to me personally. If your mind is set on the OP, then good for you, ignore what I said.

OP 41 is a very nice watch, both with blue or black dial (my wife has the new OP 34 blue dial).
I have an Omega Aqua Terra 41 blue vertical stripe motif dial, bought new in 2014, and it is another gorgeous watch; mine has the fully brushed bracelet (like the OP) while the more recent models have the central links polished.
At that time I found the Omega more attractive over the OP, mainly because of the dial, but comparing the current production (2020 watches) I would choose the OP.

I've never been particularly interested in the OP line, but that changed with the new colors. Once I got to try them both on I bought a matching turquoise dial set for my wife and I (36 for her and 41 for me). I don't think I'd ever be interested in an OP in a regular dial color, I'd rather have a blue DJ (which I have now) than a blue OP. At least for me, the only reason to get the OP is to get those dial colors.

All great feedback! I will admit that when I tried it on I was not completely blown away. I mean yes it is a nice watch but it did not wow me over the top.

The JLC is nice but I don’t believe it would withstand swimming?

You cannot go wrong with the OP 41 (or 39) if you can get one. If you want to keep it under 6K you could also look at IWC in that price range but if you like the OP that's a great piece.

Great watch! Love the simple dial, and I really like the double sticks. I have one incoming tomorrow

I really like this color too! Looks great with black rubber strap as well.

Since my DJ is silver I will go blue or green if I can get it.

If you are considering a watch to pass on to your kids at a later time, it needs to be a Rolex. Stay the course and get the best Rolex you can buy. If you prefer the DateJust look, consider a used DateJust as well.

3 color options now, green blue and silver. I will try and get mock ups of the other two colors with black bands

The OPs stand out for their simplicity. Like a 'back to the roots' thing...If it will be your only Rolex I'd go for a 'normal' color like black, blue or silver...IMG_20210104_072051_533.jpg20201016_124340.jpgIMG_20201226_064330_059.jpg

I suggest to add a less expensive dive watch from Seiko, Citizen, Hamilton, Squale or Glycine to just name a few to the collection for swimming. Or even an Apple Watch or G-Shock.

Well I mean the Rolex is a fantastic watch but for swimming? Also the bracelet - I really prefer NATOs for swimming on my divers which I simply exchange if they are wet. I don't use metal bracelets for swimming.

is this the same blue they use for the Skydweller and DJ41?

I commented on this in another thread.
Seeing them compared more than confirms my pleasure seeing the black strap make the watch pop and be seen to wear bigger.
I always think that bracelets wash the watch out.
I had made up my mind I liked the black dial best but the more I see this the retro vibe is taking a strong grip.
