Watch Insurance - UK

Just some information for you all, as this subject comes up a lot.

I've just renewed my home policy through Admiral in the UK. I noticed I still had a 114270 Explorer on the policy that I'd sold a couple of years ago.

I removed the watch from the policy, it was insured for £6000 for worldwide accident, damage and theft. It removed £115.20 from my annual policy, which I think is very good value for complete peace of mind.

Thanks for this - I'm just in the process of updating home cover to cover my Rolex so useful to have this sort of reference point.

I was with Admiral, but found them hard work administratively. When my renewal came through, it was significantly higher too.

Switched my home policy to MBNA who were cheaper and easier to deal with (did not want to see purchase receipts). The cover is good too.

I’ve been with Aviva for perhaps 10 years now and just received a refund off approx £100 for removing a BLNR from my policy that has 11 months left on it.

Insuring watches via home policies tends to be much cheaper than standalone insurance cover but as always shop around for the best deal (perhaps it’s time I did so given my 10 years with Aviva 🙄)

I also have just moved from Admiral to MBNA. It’s very easy to change watches insured with them and appears to be pretty comprehensive

I use Halifax and have found them to be very good as you can speak to them on the phone and make any changes easily.

doesnt home insurance take a hit with a claim? Why not insure with standalone jewelry policy instead?

That sounds like a really reasonable price

I'm with Halifax too and just added my OP36 for the equivalent of £50 per year. I thought they may insist on a safe as I have three Rolexs in the house, but not yet!

I’m going to disagree and say I think that’s quite expensive. While £115 isn’t a huge amount of money, it’s only insured for £6k so the additional premium is nearly 2% of the insured value.

You can pick up policies that will cover that sort of value of watch without even having to list it separately or notify the insurer that you have it so it’s just included in the bog standard cover.

I moved my home insurance and watch insurance to TH March, they are insurance brokers and obtained house and watch insurance combined for about 30% of what I was paying for them separately

Probably will but my standalone quote for my watches was more than combined watches and house insurance.

My advice is make sure you read the fine print on the insurance to make sure there are no restrictions…

Nationwide told me that the watches were only insured if opened up and inspected EVERY year. Another bank said they need to be kept in a safe to be insured whilst at home, but didn’t necessarily make it clear that the safe must be bolted to the ground.

I use TH March who were recommended by my AD and are very good.
