Day Date 218206 Platinum Incoming

After over a year of planning another collection consolidation, I finally made time to act. A combination of laziness and being away much of the year had delayed my plans. Over the past few days, I sorted through my collection, deciding which pieces to part with and retrieving their boxes, papers, and all the usual.

So, what left the collection? The BLNR, LV Sub, Black Bay Bronze Boutique Only 58, Panerai 687, and Panerai 127 Fiddy. I’d had the last two for quite some time during my Panerai phase, but they’ve been sitting unworn for a while. The Black Bay Bronze didn’t fit my usual rotation, and I wasn’t particularly fond of the tarnishing after each wear. The two Rolex pieces were a few years old, but they rarely saw wrist time.

Now, onto my first Day Date. I spent a lot of time deciding between the current DD40 and the DD II. Given my 17 3/4-inch wrist, I had a hunch the more commanding size of the DD II would be a better fit. A few years ago, I’d already envisioned my ideal Day Date: smooth bezel, ice blue dial, non-concentric, and Roman numerals. Fortunately, both a DD40 and a DD II 41 were available side by side at a dealer near the Seybold building here in Miami—both priced similarly. As I suspected, despite the DD40’s added power reserve, it looked noticeably smaller on my wrist. The DD II won the wrist presence battle, at least for me.

After finalizing the trades, I walked away with a Day Date II 218206 Platinum, reducing my collection by five pieces while adding just one.

First impressions? I’m surprised at how quickly I got used to the weight. It certainly draws attention, and the platinum’s brightness (my first platinum watch) is much more striking than any steel or white gold I own. All in all, I’m glad to have once again consolidated my collection, and I’m excited to embark on what some might call the more mature Day Date chapter.

A special thanks to Gary at gluxejewelers.com here in Miami for his warm, face-to-face hospitality and for swiftly agreeing to the trades and providing this stunning watch. Gary is local to me and consistently impresses with his astonishing stock of pre-owned timepieces. After scouring the entire Seybold Building, I was still blown away by the depth and quality of Gary's selection. Beyond being an unexpected YouTube sensation, he’s a down-to-earth guy with a deep understanding of the watch industry.

That's a great looking watch and fits you perfectly. But I call BS on your 17 3/4 inch wrist!

I’ve never even seen a dd2 I don’t think (in real life)
I love it! There were some really sweet dd2 configurations. Maybe some day I’ll pick one up

Congrats on the watch! Huge fan of Gary from the reels but didn’t think he’d be down to earth!

Very much so. His youtube persona clearly isn’t his day to day persona. At least from my experience with him. Just a level headed straightforward guy that knows his stuff and has the most amazing eye candy at his store. Absolutely stunning to be frank. I actually mentioned to him that 90% of the pieces I saw weren’t even on his website. It seems that the social media promotion gets things moving so fast the standard website update has fallen by the wayside. Best ask him via email or phone for specific pieces because even the Day Dates I saw (and ultimately walked away with) wasn’t on his website but was in the case with about 20 others…truly impressive
