Rolex Magazine, Issue #12, Best one yet?

I just picked up my copy from my AD who told me he received a limited supply. I tried to get a second copy to no avail.

I have read many others issues and this one for me was the best one yet.
Why?

In the beginning of the issue, they break down the definitions of Rolex, Oyster, Perpetual, Officially Certified & Superlative Chronometer, and most importantly “Swiss Made”. I learned that to call it Swiss Made, the company needs only 60% of the value of the watch made in Switzerland. Rolex claims it has had little impact and produces “virtually all” of their components in-house. They claim never to “offshore”.

Lots of time spent on the new GMT (126710GRNR), dedicating a section to explain why the came out with the black and grey bezel.

Also spent a section on the Deepsea. I am trying to figure out if this is considered a tool watch, why would you wear a solid gold piece on a dive in the ocean.

Testimonials - enjoyed reading the answers to questions from Gauff, Alcaraz and Zhang.

There were other sections besides showing at the end of the magazine their 2024 lineup. I took note for many 36mm styles and The Daytona line, bezel was all blinged out. They also went onto tell us how the alloy their precious metal.

Many other good sections to read.

I hope there will be more issues like this, but I think I heard a rumor this is the final issue, hope that is wrong. It must cost Rolex a lot of money to make this magazine because of the quality of the photos and paper used.

The same reason why someone would buy a Mercedes over a Toyota, a Rolex over a Seiko, a bottle of Pappy over Buffalo Trace, wear Moncler instead of Patagonia, or wear a Patek to clean up dog sh*t (looking at you John Mayer):

Because they want to, and because they can.

Why didn’t I think of that?

I think Pappy is made by buffalo trace. 🥃

Are you really trying to figure this out? We are all passionate about watches that cost more than cars, but keep worse time than an iPhone, and this particular one has you perplexed? Interesting. 🤔

It is indeed, and if you find a good single barrel Buffalo trace bottle they can be fantastic.

The best thing about this issue is the smell of the printed paper.

I actually respect rolex a lot for not offshoring anything. Omega producing bracelets in Thailand is a let down.

Fully agree. They clearly have no profitability issues. I d rather pay a little more for what is a luxury item anyway…
