Incoming Daytona
Well, I have always said that I enjoy the preowned hunt. I rarely bother with “waitlists” and I have never paid over retail for any Rolex. Not to say that there aren’t many new models that I would buy, but I am patient and will get them as they come. Although I can afford the premium of buying from a “grey”, I just simply refuse as it would ruin the experience and the fun for me. Instead, I have found many pieces that I really enjoy, and it gives me an extra smile knowing that I paid a fraction of what someone else paid for the same watch, and I get to enjoy it just as much (maybe more).
Interesting parallel is that I am the same way with cars. I own a few Porsche’s, and I refuse to get caught up in the nonsense of allocations and paying over sticker. None of this is meant as criticism to anyone who chooses a different path, just sharing my thoughts as someone who has collected watches since he was a kid, and who didn’t really enjoy the bubble of the past few years (glad it is deflating, I knew it would eventually). I am a passionate collector and enjoy my watches. While I appreciate that they are a fairly safe place to park money (the way I buy), I don’t expect any big gains, nor do I view them as investment vehicles. I always tell my kids “Cars and watches are for fun, stocks and real estate are for investing”. Sorry to ramble…just recently picked up this pre-loved 116519. I love the feel of the white gold (I like a heavy watch). Not my first PM Rolex, but first with diamonds. I also love the stealthiness of the black dial with the small diamond markers. It looks like a plain stainless black dial Daytona to most untrained eyes, but it definitely is not. It’s heavy, and the diamonds add a nice little extra that makes you smile when you look at it. Kind of an IYKYK kinda piece in my mind. Not particularly collectible, but I don’t care. I will wear it often and enjoy it. Thanks for reading Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
