Taking my watch on vacation

I wear mine everywhere. Work travel, vacation etc..one rule for me is that I never take it off of my wrist when traveling. Shower, sleep, airport never take it off but thats me.

You're not wrong. Seattle is the only place I've ever seen my wife get nervous and tuck her jewelry, walking from the market area up Pine street to the hotel after dinner was a definite adventure. We made it home Rolex's and wrists still attached but I wouldn't do it again.

I gotta go with this. If a watch is too valuable to wear - for me - I would either not buy it - or - I would put it in a museum. Over 20 years I've worn my Rolex watches all over the place in the US and around the world. YMMV

But truth is, I wear it at home and at work more than all of my rolex watches put together.

I've worn my BLNR up & down & all over the US. Live in Orlando & live most of my life in Miami, which is shady AF

Never had a problem. The only time someone even noticed it was in Colorado, Garden of the Gods, when a couple asked me to take their picture & the husband said something along the lines of "with a camera like that & that nice watch, I'm sure you'll take a great photo of us"

Just always be aware of your surroundings

Would disagree with this. You can sometimes not wear it if the risk is too high. A life and mental health is more important than a Rolex. If you don't feel safe wearing it somewhere, then take another watch and wear a beater instead. When you're back, put it back on

I too saw Pearsall on sidelines wearing a Rolex and the image kind of resonated. He is extremely lucky to be alive. All for a watch. Just makes me think twice in these times about wearing mine a lot. Surprised I would say this because I have not thought this way until very recently. And it’s not about leaving the country etc. Could be at grocery store 5 minutes from your home. You could be conceal carrying and not have time to react. To me the question is - is there that much satisfaction/pleasure from wearing a piece of jewelry to warrant the increased risk to your health? Your life? Bottom line right there. For me I am staying with low profile like Tudor, Panerai, Seiko for most of the time. Times have changed.

I’m risk averse and wear my GShock where I’m not confident, but I always have a laugh when the owner from London says I wouldn’t take my Rolex to New York and the owner from New York says I wouldn’t take my Rolex to London. I guess it’s all about familiarity with your location.

I was just in Seattle. A family member was having surgery. We stayed at an upscale hotel.

We had to walk past a lot of homeless people and hunched-over fentanyl users. I suppose we could debate all day whether these people are harmless or pose a safety threat.

Plus, there is this vibe in Seattle. I won’t go into details, but it’s not exactly like Palm Beach, Florida.

I would think a Explorer I is enough of an under the radar Rolex to not worry about it, but at the end it is your call

Well I am long back from the vacation in NM and Texas, brought a beater to wear during the day and the Expl I at night, no problems.

Glad to know you are back and without worries! I take my watches everywhere. If the country makes me worry about a theft problem, I take my Tudor GMT which attracts less attention and the GMT function makes perfect sense abroad. I have never had a problem and I really travel a lot!

I alternate between my 36mm one & my 39mm one.

The Explorer 1 is really discreet and doesn't get noticed. Well, I guess the thieves of these watches know how to spot them easily too. A bit like we, who love watches, know how to spot every Rolex that passes by.

I would just insure the watch for $10 month and wear it. I don’t think an Explorer is going to be so flashy so worry about.

A solid gold GMT, maybe.
