Spring Drives are amazing, but that tech isn’t leaving Seiko.

It's funny to think of Stern running Rolex like Wilsdorf, creating a less-expensive brand called Cubitus (a la Tudor). Then we'd be seeing lots of Cubitus models coming out, maybe a cobranding with SpaceX, and lots of brand ambassadors, too. Imagine the Boutique only Bronze Cubitus...

No worries I thought it was a pretty interesting take and it seems feasible albeit preposterous to some .

It kinda makes sense especially as it would differentiate the Cubitus between the Nautilus and Aquanaut lines by having a sporty men's quartz model which the prior two product lines do not currently offer. It would complement the existing automatic models within the Nautilus/Aquanaut lines without as significant of an overlap due to the difference in movement and capability. A quartz Cubitus would also align with Thierry's statements about another "entry" level line of watches as quartz models are seen as more approachable.

Either way, the truth will be revealed in less than 24 hours!

No worries. My source should be quite reliable. It's the guy who runs "Luxify" (imagine a German version of Hodinkee), who will also attend the event.

Edit: He posted this on a German watch forum, which is why I feel free to share.

Quartz or automatic, it’s no looker thats for sure. Let’s hope it was an early mock up design in the advert and not quite as bad as it appears!

So the leaked model will be in platinum? Very curious to see the prices on these.

On King Flum instagram, the bracelet of the steel and TT are photoshopped. That is an exact Nautilus bracelet. Unless Patek decided to let the Cubitus cross share the bracelet with the Nautilus, that picture is likely to be wrong..... If they do allow cross sharing of bracelet, then my mind is blown.

Lets see what happens in a few hours, but if the middle is real, that's the one for me... Love the complications and dial layout... So cool and super useful...

Quote taken from WPS:

Hi All, Patek wishes to share with our forum the background regarding the leak of the Cubitus news this past weekend to address the confusion.

For those who might not have read up in the news, social media and/or WPS posts, Fortune Magazine published a Patek advertisement on the new Cubitus watch several days ahead of the official launch today (October 17th).

Upon reading about the ad and the related media frenzy for the past few days, I reached out to Jérôme Pernici (Commercial and Marketing Director). Although upset and very busy dealing with the ensuing media storms, he was most gracious and explained to me what happened. He also kindly allowed me to share the details with our forum.

Jérôme explained that much work had gone into planning and developing this new line for a number of years, and the company was full of excitement in preparing to unveil it at a special event in Munich. He said that, to Patek's dismay, Fortune Magazine signed an agreement (containing confidentiality requirements) but decided to publish ahead of schedule. However, we did not discuss whether the ad is the same as the one designed originally by the brand. No matter what, Jérôme said that full legal action will be taken and this unacceptable behavior will be made known.

Contrary to the assertion of a member who wrote a post in speculating this matter, the leak is NOT an "elaborate hoax" by the brand. Unfortunately Patek was a victim in this woeful situation. Let's move past this leak now, especially given the information openly shared by Patek on its sensitive internal matter with us. Personally I am eager to see this new line in the metal to understand more.

When we have the full details and photos, let us apply our forum rule in being friendly in our discussions just like when you meet someone for the first time at a cocktail party. Let's extend this courtesy to the brand and the name of this new line. PLEASE, irrespective of whether you like the new releases or not, comments such as Cubitus sounds like a "disease" as written by the above member in another of his post should be avoided.

FYI, After Munich, Singapore will be displaying Cubitus at ADs tomorrow. Hong Kong on the other hand will not. Seems like different regions have dissimilar policies. Please check with your AD to see if you can get a first hand look at Cubitus. Patek and I look forward to your feedback and photos.

I’m of the belief that it was all a controlled leak to get the public used to the look ahead of the launch
