This thing is to the Nautilus what the Royal Oak Offshore is to the Royal Oak. Its proper name should be Nautilus Cubitus. And all of Stern’s insistence that he discontinued the 5711 because he didn’t want the Nautilus to define the brand was pure semantics. How did he think it was a good idea to give it the same dial and the same fucking bracelet (which, by the way, looks way too curvy for such a square watch)?

This is like a car crash and I can't avert my eyes away

Why did Thierry say they don't want to be known for the Nautilus and then bring us Cubenaut for the first new model release in 25 years for the brand...

To be fair, it's just a hiccup. Maybe a much-needed wake up call. If Patek has board members, this may be the perfect opportunity to replace certain employees with visionaries and wise passionate lover(s) of horology into proper corporate positions.

My hopes were high to see PP's new Conneseur Series of newly developed top-level high-end movements. PP going upscale where many independents invest many watchmaker hours creating parts and very detailed hand decoration. In this case, it would be new square movements 'made to measure' for the cases. The movement decorations would be 'next level' never before seen from PP to ensure they stay relevant given modern horology's many 'competitors'.

Wow the on the wrist shot makes it look like those metal apple watch cases with a patek watch face on it. Why is it so massive.

“Now you understand why we shut down the 5711,” Stern said today in Munich. “I already knew we had to make space for this one. It’s a chess game, that’s how I see it. I anticipate many plays ahead.”

the new watch line shows the limitations of amateurish family owned design inspirations. actually, it is quite funny in that grandeur ceremonial presentation set up. you are led to think something great is going to come until reality sets in:::))))

Agreed. It's just not a great design. There are so many great designs out there, the kind of stuff that ends up on display at MOCA.

For example, follow the evolution of the 356 to the 911 is a nice case. An early iteration of the then 901 was not pretty (Type 754 T7). The released version turned out much better. The 996 was panned and still receives a lot of criticism for the lack of aggressiveness of the design. Public opinion can be a valid criticism of design.

Given that there really is practically no independent watch media, this forum's reaction speaks for itself.

If you read many of the comments, AP and now finally PP seem to have lost the nimbus of haute horlogerie.

All of this is due to unwise strategic decisions in family-owned businesses that alienate more and more loyal customers.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy watches from these brands without ignoring the aura of vulgarity and arrogance.

The pricing is out of touch with reality.

Quite a few rational people wonder how many ridiculous hoops they have to jump through to throw their hard-earned money at a company for which they are just a small and replaceable factor in the equation.

The pursuit of maximum profit at all costs, ignoring the reputation that has been built up over decades, has led to an irreversible damage to the image of these companies.

Haha yeah. Economically sure this thing will sell out because of Stern fanboys 🤣

But let’s call a spade a spade given his recent comments on nautilus (which in retrospect is super disingenuous). I don’t think this will help the legacy either.

I can't decide fully how I feel about it. I asked to be put down for the olive dial, but I think the MSRP is quite high. I also do not understand why they would discontinue the olive 5711a, only to come out with a new version of it that seems to be hated by 80% of Patek fans.
I'd love an olive 5711a, but seeing as this is the closest I could ever get to one, I think I could get used to it.

Santos is your go-to. ~40mm or smaller as there are various sizes, and styles/metal combos. Plus the Santos is a true sports timepiece due to having 100m waterproof rating. A mere 30m wp rating in my life is just begging to fog up and then might be an expensive 'out of warranty' rebuild to remove trapped moisture.

Santos wins imho.

I believe that 45 mm is the diagonal across the case. From 10 to 4. Anyone want to pull out the Pythagorean theorem to estimate the width and length? :)
