Concerning the ad video, I wonder if it's natural or imaginable in some business culture for someone to give a colleague (who may also be a love interest) a platinum Patek as a surprise gift during a business party of some sort.

But then the question now is: Why not just promote Aquanaut or Nautilius? I think they already are in this category in the mind share of the targeted audience.
First thing I was impressed with was the guy being given the Cubitus is a beta when his girlfriend(?) giving it is wearing a rainbow 7968R. She could have given him a 5811G if she thinks he's a keeper.

when I was at the event we had the chance to talk to thierry a bit.
Regarding the case size he said that the movement (big date) could only fit in a case size of 43mm and up and that he decided on 45mm after testing 43/44/45

I was quite taken aback when the guy at the try on table told us it was 45mm (as I have a wrist size of about 16,5 cm). But after trying it on I‘d say what Ichiran said before. Since its L2L is only slightly bigger than the case, it‘s quite wearable even on a smaller wrist. One would need to get used to that wide face though..

Regarding the couple in the video, he mentioned that they actually became a couple after the shoot. Funny tidibit

The lady who gave him the watch is his Aunt.

Thank you for posting the pictures. I usually dislike 2-toned watches, but I have to admit this is staying to grow on me. Looks super nice on the wrist.

I'm quite tanned maybe that's why the bezel colour works on my skin tone. Suggest to try at your AD it should be coming soon

Let’s be honest. They enlarged the size for the man of advanced age to be able to see the watch without aid. Those are who buy Patek sports watches en masse.

With more marketing, our perception will change. Once Tom Brady and Leo are seen with this on, it will garner high demand.

Definitely just the angle. I've seen multiple different pics and the large date display is perfectly aligned.

You can't just make a square Nautilus without provoking some cognitive dissonance.

Most of us have owned or just stared at photos of a Nautilus for so long now that when we perceive the Cubitus it just looks wrong.

My wife recently started wearing glasses and this is the same effect!

Guess we'll all get used to it.

How is the case made compared to the Nautilus? What I mean is it the same construction method and fastening technology?

Yes, I don't think I can get over the Tag Heuer / Cartier Santos proportionality - never had a square watch.

According to Monochrome - "there is an undeniable connection between Cubitus and Nautilus. Putting both watches side by side would reveal obvious similarities and familiar traits, such as the two attachments, one on either side of the case (the famous hinges of the Nautilus), the two-part construction that was first seen in 1976 with the 3700, the overall shape of the lugs, at 12 and 6 o’clock, the profile, the embossed dial pattern, and even the bracelet."

https://monochrome-watches.com/patek...w-specs-price/

It is a 2-part construction similar to the original 3700, and the latest 5811, with hinge at the side.

I understand why square watches are not for everyone. I don't have one now but perception of watches could change over time.

Pics can be misleading but in this photo from the German forum the 5821 seems to wear a lot larger than 5711.

^that huge bezel and ears will look pretty gnarled after a few months of real wear.
