Setting Date
Apologies for the dumb question, but what is the best tip for setting the date so it “stays accurate” all day. What I mean is if I need to set it half way through the day, how do I ensure my Sub will keep the date the full ~ 24 hours.
Thanks for the help. PS - obviously a new Rolex owner here. |

Set the date to the previous date, then manually move the minute hand past midnight to the present date to the current time

Or if its AM spin the hands around until date changes then set time, if its PM spin hands around until date doesn't change and set time

Setting Date
I do the following after I pick up a watch that I haven’t worn in a while.
1) Wind it. 2) move the time past 12:00. If the date changes, I know the watch thinks it’s midnight. If it doesn’t change, then I know the date will change next time we get to 12:00. If you need to, you should move the time past 12:00 again so that the watch is in the right mode (AM or PM) 3) now that you know the results of step 2, you set the time and date accordingly. I always set the date to the day before, hack the seconds at 0, then set the time. I engage once the world clock reaches that exact time.

Run the hands through 12 manually. If the date changes then that is midnight, if the date does not, it is noon. If you are setting in the afternoon and you turn through 12, changing the date, you need to go around to 12 (noon) again to land on your pm setting. Once you have the date set, then the quickset date change can be used at any time, day or night, without affecting when it changes automatically. If you have several days that you need to adjust, you only need to establish if the dial time is either am or pm once. After setting for am/pm you can quickset through the days to get to the one you want.

Setting Date

That only works in the AM. If it’s PM, you need to take an extra step and move the time past noon before setting it. Otherwise the date wont flip at midnight. What I posted above covers both AM and PM scenarios. What Tools posted above is correct, too. Just wanted to point this out, because there is some incomplete info in this thread, and some folks agreed with it, which makes it even worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A few watch brands say that you should not try and set the date between certain hours, usually a couple of hours either side of midnight.
Is this also true for Rolex?

Does not apply to Rolex, the movements with date complication utilize a separate cam that preloads a spring and propels the date forward. Other watch brands that utilize direct driven mechanism for date change should not be changed at those specific times that you stated |
