I believe from the interview, smaller sizes would be incoming. I have a feeling that our feelings would change significantly if a smaller size is available.

Smaller size would definitely help. However, the square shape itself is so hard and sharp, it's a bit jarring. It gives the squared off shape a kind of severeness that does take some time to get used to. That's why the rounded edges of the Nautilus gives it a bit more finesse.

But that's the thing with me. If I need to convince myself of the watch's merits, if I have to deep dive analyze the proportions and stylistic choices, then it's not really a "successful" design. The first visceral reactions is "what the h*ll is that", which is not quite the reaction I think Stern was hoping for?

If I'm spending over $40k for a watch, I feel it has to hit me better than "well....I guess I see the merits....."

Is it me or does the date window look especially small given the large dial size ? A grand date size would have been much more special !

Yeah agree. It's the same movement as the 38mm Calatravas and 35mm ladies Nautilus. Now in a 45mm case, pretty lazy imo.

I don’t know your wrist size but this fits great on you. Accepting the fact of its size, on most of the wrist shots I’ve seen posted so far I haven’t noticed any in which the watch overwhelms the wrist or looks comical. Your wrist shot is encouraging, thanks for posting.

I also went to look at these today. My subjective opinion is it does look better in person but not by much. I think the shape is fine, it just looks like a square Nautilus... but I don't really understand why it had to be 45mm. It looked massive on me and I have almost 7.5" wrists.

If I had to choose one it would be the 5822. I liked the weight of the platinum and the strap is really nice. There's just so much empty space on the 5821 it doesn't look right to me. They also had the two tone there which I didn't even bother to try.

For me personally there are many other Patek watches I would want to buy before these. My wife and I both thought her Santos looked better and more interesting. Just my $0.02.

Here are my take-aways:

- its not a "new" collection and should not have been positioned as such. Its an extension of the Nautilus family.
- dial design should have been different if they didnt want the negative comparison's to the nautilus family.
- the 45mm is overwhelming and should not have been the piece they announced first, should have been a smaller size first....except maybe the Platinum piece as I am not sure that dial layout is going to fit well on a smaller square case
- the reverse/case back looks awkward. The movement looks so tiny compared to the case
- I think it will actually look good in a smaller size....40mm, but again its still just an extension of the nautilus family
- The pricing makes no sense to me for the basic 3 hand models

Why does Patek say one of the purposes of the Cubitus was to create an entry level watch that helps capture a younger client base? Isn’t that what the 5167a is for?

When this watch is impossible to buy, I think it will sell a ton of Cartier Santos watches.

At half the price too. I think it’s a sign that SS 5167 has a short shelf life remaining.

We really need to see side-by-side pics with various versions of the Santos. When someone gets a chance, we really need to see PP vs Cartier Santos pics
