Rolex Day-Date with Linen dial and Catalan day disc

Dear forum,

I would like to bring you today a quite special pice I have been offered recently.

It is a 36mm Rolex Day-Date in yellow gold with its presidential bracelet. It has a beautiful linen dial and a Catalan day of the week disc.

It has been offered to me by the daughter of the original owner here in Barcelona.

I am not able to identify the reference number and the year but it looks like it could be from the 70s or early 80s. It doesn't have the hidden clasp and it has a plexiglass crystal.

I have noticed that Catalan day-dates are harder to find in this condition; bracelet, dial, hands and case look very nice. But I have one doubt regarding the bezel before deciding the purchase. I always thought that smooth bezels for Day-Dates were exclusively made for Platinum versions in order to differentiate them between the White Gold ones. This one being a yellow gold case day-date it makes me doubt if it could be a possibility.

Your advice would be much appreciate it

Thank you in advance for your help

While that bezel is more common on oyster bracelet, quite a few of them for sale currently with President bracelet and domed bezel as the one you illustrate.

It looks like an 1803 with older style smooth bezel and older president bracelet clasp based on the unclear photos.
The photos are not good enough to help authenticate the parts, so clear macro photos are a must when posting for verification.
Can’t clearly see dial, case/bracelet markings, etc.
Just too many aftermarket parts out there.
Pictures of the dial face from the side not helpful; clear straight pictures of the watch are much more desirable.
Plenty photo examples in other threads here on TRF.
Additionally, you would likely get more replies if you posted this in the vintage section with better photos.
Good luck…

That appears to be a pie pan dial - If so, and the smooth bezel is original to the watch, the reference number between the lugs will be 1802.

I love the linen dials!

Linen is beautiful. And the Catalan day wheel too. All days start with DI (for Latin dies=day) which is rather special whereas in most European languages with Latin influence the day syllable is at the end of the word.

An example: ThursDAY (ENG), JeuDI (FRA), GioveDI (ITA), DonnersTAG (GER) but DIjous (CAT) or Dies Iovis (LATIN).

However, in Spanish the dies portion has been omitted: Jueves (Iovis)

I'm not familiar with the smooth bezel but afaik it's rather uncommon and therefore an attractive alternative.

Yes! Been investigating and it appears to be 1802 with a Pie Pan Linen Dial... All matches

Yes indeed! Catalan is my mother tongue and it is quite amazing to think that Rolex used to do Day Dates with week wheels in Catalan back in the 60s and 70s... We are only 8 million people
