What is this watch? Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Rolex

My wife of 25 years has an almost fetish for the style of Carolyn Bessette.

She once mentioned how enthralled she was with the fact that she once had a 'big men's Rolex' that she wore.

I've seen only 2 pics of her with a Rolex and NO information as to what she actually had. But I'd like to get my wife one for our 25th Christmas together. The pic I have appears to be likely a GMT or OP on a Jubilee bracelet, but I can't really make it out. It is late 80's early 90's. I know some of you will know exactly what it is... so I'm here hoping. The best pic is the March 1993 photo from the Marie Claire link. 3rd pic into the article.

I'm getting a 404 error on the Marie Claire link. Would you have some screen shots you could post up as images on here?

And good luck with the search - a lovely thing to do for your wife.

You are a husband of the year candidate if you pull this off.

Good luck

First pic - she has a SS Sub on a Jubilee (prolly one from a GMT).

And it's possible the IG photo is the same watch just taken from the side.

I tried posting an image, but I have it on my computer and I don't think I can post it. It isn't hosted on the net, and this forum requires a link to the pic, to post I believe. If you can help me figure out how to do so, I'd be happy to post it.

The post is working for me when I click. But I'll definitely post pics if I know how to do so.

HMMMmmmmmm... now I'm getting the error. It worked the first few times I clicked.

If you do a Google search for: 32 Gorgeous, Candid Photos of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy ... it is the article from Marie Claire 3rd pic down I believe.

Try this:

Get the image up on your screen.

Take a screen grab of the image (on a Windows PC press the 'windows' button, shift, and 's' together to bring up the image snip tool).

Save the 'snipped' image on your computer.

Go to an image hosting site like imghost . net

Upload the image - you'll get an ' IMG ' code that you can then paste into a forum post.

I think this is working now. These are the only 2 pics I can find that shows her with a Rolex.

To me, from the 1st pic, that’s a sub on a jubilee.

Doesn’t look like it has a date and seems like a maxi dial. The indices look large and the dial appears matte.

Not much text either.

I’m pretty bad at the “55” era of subs but I imagine it’s in that range. Others will know better :)

I’m positive it’s not a GMT because there’s hash marks between numbers on the bezel.

It does indeed look like a GMT on a jubilee to my untrained eye, but I suspect a definitive answer will come from the better informed.

Actually I looked again and there is some distortion at 3:00 and not a clear flat bar so it could be a 16800 matte???

Looks to be a black dialed GMT with the GMT hand pointing to the 8 o’clock position.

The 12 o’clock triangle marker is also visible, further confirming the GMT.

The watch is upside down, so the date window is obscured, but the horizontal baton hour marker is visible at the 9 o’clock position.

As for the bezel, the numbers look smaller, so I would speculate it’s a 16710 version.

I was thinking a Sub on Jubilee, but I didn't think they ever came on a jubilee and from what I read, it wasn't a 'big deal' for her, so my interpretation was she wore it as it was given. That certainly doesn't mean it couldn't have been altered... I am reading 99% into 1% information.

It clearly has a 'marked' bezel. And its on a jubilee. I didn't see the GMT hand, nor did I see a cyclops. ... Its the bracelet not matching a Sub (to my knowledge) that is throwing me.

I’m pretty sure you could get earlier models on a jubilee.

Others are saying gmt but I’m seeing hash marks on the bezel between numbers, not dots.

Also, I believe there to be a date window because there looks to be a warping of the light.

I just looked at date windows on 1680 and they reach in too far which cancels that and a GMT out. So I’m pretty sure you’re looking for this (5512) on a jubilee.

As I understand it, you could swap for a jubilee when purchasing. Not like now.

If it was a gift, the buyer may have thought it more feminine that way.

Sorry I’m bored currently.

I’m looking more and thinking it could actually be a Tudor 9411.

The logo/text below the 12:00 triangle doesn’t seem to be as wide as Rolex print. More like Tudor. And the indices could certainly be square. Can’t really tell!!!

It wouldn’t be an earlier Tudor because there’s not enough text at the bottom or the “smiley”.

I definitely think it’s between these two and I’m going to take a break now lol

I can’t tell from pictures looks like a GMT could be Pepsi or Black .. I don’t think it was a 16800 because they were not offered with a jubilee bracelet? It could have been changed.

Op, that is a very nice thing to do for your wife! Kudos

Cheers.

The more I look at this, the more I believe this is a No Date Sub (14060) on a jubilee bracelet. The bracelet is the thing which is throwing me, but I also believe that I had heard at one point, you could get different bracelets and bezels at the ADs, regardless of 'what it came with'.

I did my best to enhance this a bit. The triangle at 2 could be a GMT hand or just a distortion... Running up against the resolution of the image. Those could be numbers on the bezel or reflections.

I don’t want to come off as argumentative but there’s certainly not enough clutter on that bezel to be a GMT.

There’s a good amount of space between the numbers and the hash marks unlike on the GMT where it’s all very tightly packed.

The text below the 12:00 really has me going back to a Tudor.

It may be a Rolex, not Tudor, according to this: “She was gifted a men's Rolex watch by another colleague because Carolyn had helped her get the job at VIP sales.“
