Regarding the statement of fact. If your wife asks do I look fat, are you going to say yes you look like a whale? It’s a statement of fact! There’s a right way and wrong way to respond to people and his statement was not how you respond. If he said something like “We understand that new releases are always going to be controversial but ultimately it’s up to the market to decide” then less people wouldn’t have an issue with it. His response comes off as extremely arrogant and entitled coming from a nepo baby trying to prove that he’s not.
The article in French, which I read as well in Bilan does not state this. The article reports that TS said in French: « 99% de ces haters n’ont aucune Patek et n’en achèteront jamais », which means: 99% of these haters do not have any Patek and will not buy any ». TS is not referring to these « haters » being rich or poor. This is something that is not in the article.

This was an interesting article that i came across in the NY Times today thought I would share it. Even though the Cubitus is Pateks first new collection in 25 years - a British watchmaker already had a similar watch on the market at much cheaper price.

Hadn't known that one. The Farasute FS-010 is an older square Nautilus clone with a bit of Santos in the mix.

Just read the article, it honestly seems fake. The interviewer questions seem incredibly aggressive and crude, and I just don’t see TS responding this way. I’ve seen multiple interviews of TS on video, and he’s a pretty classy guy.

Maybe you and Mr. Stern are just not used to real journalism?
I mean the toughest question watch media like Revolution or Hodinkee normally ask in interviews are like ,,What is your favorite strap color, Sir?“
In addition if you get the questions in advance of an „interview“ you have enough time to hide your real character.

How many reading this are truly inspired by the Nautilus² (a.k.a. Cubitus)?

Patek is certainly a watch company with a great history. The question is what are they now with their current offerings under their current leadership?

I for one am not inspired to buy any of their current products at their outlandish prices. Too many other great brands available including many incredible independents.

If I purchase something now, I think I would be simply purchasing the name on the dial.

He had decades.

It's not just me who seems unimpressed.

Have zero doubt PP will sell every model produced.

We live in interesting times.

PS: If apologies are needed, please consider them offered. Truly do hope their next release is absolutely incredible and is universally very well received. Am bowing out of this thread.

“Speaking of criticism: The Cubitus was leaked two days before its launch and caused a shitstorm. What does that do to you?”

Doesn’t sound very professional from a “real journalist”. Sounds like a d bag trying to stoke a response.

Round man wears square watch: Looks ridiculous and sounds like an asshole. This is the new face of Patek.
If you are not a fanboy move on. There are many other fish in the sea. The Cubitus is Sponge Bob Nautilus. Hideous.

The momentum of bad press is growing by the day, YouTube, instagram, facebook and forums have some bad comments regarding Patek, the WatchPro site who would be on you for the slightest bit of criticism of Patek have really taken it bad as well and that is something I thought I would never see.

I would suggest anyone who already has a Cubitus made that exact choice.

Dear Russell, I would suggest it’s not the same if you already own nautilus/aquanaut models and rare handcrafts by PP…

It’s a choice, no matter who makes it and what else is in the collection.

It’s indeed a choice, but but not the same one, in the context in which I was referring to in my original post

I don't think it's the same if you can buy a Cubitus at MSRP but turn it down because you want a Nautilus. The real choice would be if you could choose between a Cubitus AND a Nautilus with the same time at an AD.

In such a case, I would really like to know how many people would choose Cubitus among those who do not yet have a lot of Nautilus.

If you don’t own a Nautilus, I can’t judge that, but a decision to take the Cubitus over a Nautilus in a straight choice then absolutely - for me it was 5980G or 5822P.

I tried on the 5821 and 5712 the other day and while I would happily own either I would choose the Cubitus.

If I remember well, you have several beautiful PPs. In this case, your choice should not be a question, because if you want to diversify and make your collection more versatile, then it is quite obvious that if you can buy a Cubitus from an AD. If I were in the same situation as you, I would probably have chosen Cubitus.

That's why I suggested that we should instead ask IF someone DOESN'T have a Nautilus AND had the opportunity to buy the same knowledge from an AD in the form of a Nautilus or Cubitus, which one would they choose?

Exactly what I meant.
In Russell’s case let’s make it more relatable- if you could keep only ONE, would it be your 5811 (or any other favorite nautilus you currently own) or the Cubitus? Keep it one hunnid

My point is, I believe it is perfectly understandable for anyone to pick a Cubitus over a similar Nautilus, whether first time buyer or multiple owner, it’s simply a matter of choice. Now it’s probably an easier decision if you want to add diversity to an existing collection as suggested above. The 5822P wears perfectly with a suit so is now one of my daily wearers for work, I have never worn a bracelet Nautilus in a similar way. If I could only keep one piece then no sports Patek would be in with a shout.
