EU Global Blue refund for Rolex

I purchased a Rolex in Belgium 8 weeks ago. Completed all the paperwork and got the customs stamp. Still no refund on my CC.
Anyone have a perspective on how long the refund takes?

Thank you TRF.

Should be around 3 weeks if you didn't or couldn't opt for the instant version at the airport.

I thought you’d get it as you left the country

We bought some items in Paris a few weeks ago. The dealers filled out most of the paperwork in the store, basically stopped at the kiosk, check in and dropped the envelope in the box. One week later we had the VAT refund. I guess it varies.

Hi PhilSF,
You may want to call Glibal Blue.
Do you have a copy of the paperwork you submitted to them?
They could be overwhelmed because of the tourist numbers.

I bought a watch in Poland. I dropped off the Global Blue stamped form at their airport location office, not a drop box. Took over 10 weeks to pay back the credit card. I was told when you process at their office by credit card it takes less than a week. BullSH!T. 10 weeks!

They’re horrible, and their fees are ridiculous. Will never buy a watch internationally again, it doesn’t save VAT/TAX at all….

Learn the hard way.

I bought some shirts and a perfume in the EU. Left Paris via CDG on July 20th. I'm still waiting for the refund 3 months later.

After hunting around to find the desk, there was no one at it and said to ring the doorbell or something. Some rude lady emerged a minute later and said to drop the form into the Global Blue drop box near the desk, and then shut the window.

No other person was there. Why they couldn't just process it then and there is beyond me.

I bought a watch in Singapore last Thursday and already have the refund on my credit card, took about 3 business days. I could have opted for cash on the spot, this was at Changi Airport where everything was done at a kiosk terminal.

I seem to recall that I never got the VAT refund for a Moonswatch I bought a few years ago in Paris where I dropped of the physical form at the airport.

Global Blue can definitely take a while! And many mistakes in refunds happen.

To save yourself some pain in the future. Create a Global Blue account online and download the app, enter a credit card to be used for refunds. When you are purchasing an item which is eligible for VAT refund, show the store your Global Blue barcode and all your information will auto-populate on their end, including the refund method. When you clear customs at the airport, if the customs office is linked to the Global Blue system, they will electronically "stamp" your item, and the refund will be processed automatically - no need to go to the Global Blue kiosk or drop an envelope in a box.

Not sure how widespread that is across Europe, but worked for us leaving Italy.

Reading the thread has been very interesting as I plan to use the VAT refund in EU at some point.

Does anyone have any experience/ideas about what % actual refund you get in the end after fees. Say the VAT rate is 20% what would be the expected take home saving after fees? The AD suggested around 14/15% after fees.

Thanks

It varies from country to country.

In France, I believe you can get a little over half of the VAT back -- 12% (vs. the total of 20%).

I believe that this number excludes the processor's fees.

About 17% with the currency exchange and the fees from Italy for a watch purchase. That was Global Blue. There is also Planet Tax.
I think it's best to do VAT return at the airport but I had to mail in the form because I had to visit Bulgaria before leaving EU.

From my personal experiences n friends, it takes 3 -10 weeks, as long as you follow the steps correctly. Last year, it was 9 weeks for us, while a friend got his in 4 weeks, both deposited back to credit cards. :)
