Bored of the collection
Has anyone felt bored of their collection that you were considering unloading a decent number of pieces? I know I'll catch heat for this but I'm bored of the stainless pieces. I have 1 gold piece and love the weight of it but was considering unloading a batman on jubilee, submariner date and panda daytona for a heavier hitter. Thoughts?

Boredom is a symptom of this watch addiction disease we all have on TRF lol.
Try something new if you must, but you'll be back to good ole SS eventually. |

I'm starting to feel this. I've been lucky enough to pull together about 7 Rolex in the last 5 years and have a YM, GMT, DD, Daytona, Sub and in a mix of s/s t/t and p/m.
I do like them all, but am now leaning in to p/m and more so other brands. I've had a Rolex for over 35 years. I find the s/s Sub totally boring (that said I kinda regret selling my 5 digit, despite never wearing it). I now mostly look at p/m watches from other brands. I'd love a rose gold PP or AP, sadly that's an impossible journey. I'm also starting to feel less is more. I think the less you have the more you cherish what you do have. If I could start all over I'd probably just have my rose DD, rose OF Daytona and a rose or yellow PP or AP. |

Yes.
I was bored of my collection some years back and traded many of them away…. Looking back maybe I should have smacked myself. Here is a picture of boredom from 2015 I still have the sub :) And bored from 2020 I still have the exp II :)

They are your watches and you can trade them for something different but don’t do something you might regret later

Out of all of these, you only have the Sub and Explorer 2?

Gotta admit I never understood watch “boredom”. It’s a small clock strapped to your wrist. Do you want it to light up? Spin around? Entertain you?

The sub is my exercise watch and the expII is my travel watch. Both perfect for what I need.

The fpj was the exception as it needed service twice in two years and I just wasn’t ok with that.

That’s why I have always thought a dozen is perfect. Never bored.

Interesting perspective from someone who joined a watch forum. I think boredom is a fairly common feeling among collectors of most anything.

Yup we're in the same boat. I'm unloading a stainless navy RO, GMT, and sub for heavier hitter.
i wouldn't say I'm bored. i just think it's time to continue the journey. They're great. it's just we're so much closer than beginning than to the end. I also have a panda i will also be moving. Quote:

I would suggest that a panda Daytona is never boring.
Solid gold is an itch to scratch but you will find it a nice change up watch, but you wont want to wear it all the time.

I find I get bored of some pieces sometimes, but, as I hold onto them, they still inspire me to wear them on occasion. I think if I found I was bored most of the time- or had little occasion to wear- a big/expensive piece that needed a lot of maintenance ($$$)- I'd move it on. (I did it once with a Patek PC). But, otherwise, I try to hold onto pieces I have bought as I try to only acquire pieces that speak to me on some visceral level- so that makes it harder to let them go.

I recently have pondered the OP’s question. Generally speaking a bit less enthusiastic about the watches. Not necessarily related to SS or PM. Sill like them, but have wondered about the resources tied up in a significant number of pieces.

I would like to buy exactly her three Rolex models in the long term and would be my dream team. I would keep them all and add another watch if possible.
But do what you think is right. |
