I have a great relationship with several ADs and never measure the spend or the time it takes. Don’t play the game. I love watches, and I want to know that I’m buying from a business that cares, and an SA that I connect with. If I don’t click with sales team, I don’t waste my time at the store. I ALWAYS ask to also speak with the owner/manager as well, not just the SA. It is a relationship, but not one based on how much you spend! That’s bullshit 100%.

If there is the slightest hint that I have to buy stuff I don’t want, I ask for the manager or owner, tell them what I think about that, show them a picture of my (and my wife’s) collection and exit the store and letting them know I will never return as a customer.

Before I walk out, I flip open my photos app, the look on their faces when they see my collection and my commitment to never give them my business. Well, that’s priceless!

I’m fortunate to have only done that twice. And in one case, I did it to the owner of one the largest AD’s in Los Angeles. A little over a week later, I got an apology along with a watch. You don’t earn my business playing games, you earn my business by selling me product I want, and I give you my money only for product I want. There is no rush and nothing life threatening about buying a watch, instant gratification can be met with Grey Dealers and you can pay the premium for it if you wish. I’ve done that too. Nothing wrong with it.

Welp,, that’s my $.02

It was between 2016 to 2017 I can't remember the exact date. My AD priced their popular Rolex at market rate then.

How much did you spend before being offered a SS GMT?

Weird. Bought my BLNR at retail then. It was sitting the case.

You must’ve been living in a 2024 market way back in 2016.

I went digging and realized I still have the 2016 receipt from my AD. The price was S$12,979, dated 19 Dec 2016. The MSRP was S$12,010 then. No there was no Daytona, BLNR or sub in my AD display case at MSRP then. Otherwise I would have bought them at MSRP. Why would I pay more for a watch if it is "sitting in a cold case"? It makes zero sense.

Do you have 2016 time stamped proof of your AD display case full of GMT?

My first Rolex was a GMT BLNR, which I waited about 9 months for. Three years later I received a BLRO (7 months after the registration), and in the meantime a Datejust blue and a green Sub.

Out of curiosity, are you in a big city? And does your AD only sell Rolex at that location or were they a part of a bigger jewelry store?

Poznań - one of the largest cities in Poland, with a population of over 500 thousand inhabitants and two AD Rolex. The one I buy from only has Rolex watches and jewelry.

My wife got mine for my birthday in 3 days as a last minute gift. We buy a lot of my wife’s jewelry along with my daughters there and my in laws have also made purchases there. For watches had bought a bulgari serpenti, a SD 43 the year before and a 5726 when it came out. Would be much harder today I think.

In April 2020, after expressing an interest in purchasing a Rolex watch with a local AD, I was offered both a 40 Yachtmaster Rhodium and a GMT CHNR. I purchased the YM, and in May my wife bought me the Rootbeer. How things have changed since 2020.

Damn wtf.

As always YMMV. They seem to care about milestones now. After you get vetted. My GMTs were insanely quick.

Cases were full of everything except stainless steel Daytona’s through 2017 in the states.
