Are RM movements actually bad?

I think highly of RMs for their producing watches of interesting materials and also the technology behind the watches (like being lightweight, or super thin) but are the movements really that bad? I don’t see this mentioned much and just ran into this topic when I watched ProducerMicahel videos.

they're not bad.
they are made by AP&R - essentially producing movements for AP Concepts as well
technologically advanced movements.
reliability, not so sure, never own one long enough to know

not entirely true. Some of the movements are APRP a lot of them are just Vaucher

They also have an in-house movement, IE RM72. They are moving more towards in-house movements, which IMO, at these prices should be demanded. I've owned several RMs now, never had a single issue with reliability and I wore/traveled/swam with them often. Some are quite the engineering feat, like the cable suspended tourb movement.

Their highly technical watches and incredibly engineered calibres are often the results of partnerships with external movement manufactures such as Renaud Et Papi (also known as APRP – Audemars Piguet Renaud Papi) which Audemars Piguet has a 78% stake in. But some of Richard Mille’s movements are developed by Vaucher as well, notably the RMAC4 found inside their highly complicated automatic rattrapante chronograph RM65-01. The RMAC4 is based on the Vaucher VMF 6710, but it is the perfect example of a manufacturer making a sourced design their own.

72-01 is first in house chrono movement made by RM.

65-01 is made by third party APRP.

That brand is the biggest joke you can imagine.

Are they bad ? NO

But they ask 5 times to much for what you get compared to others. But as usual some people don't know what they pay for and they just want something to show of ... How pathetic can it be


If you're old enough to remember the year 2000 well enough...Back then there were no iPhones and the best selling phone was Nokia.
They made great but pretty simple phones ( smartphone did not exist) and the price was a couple of hundred to let's say 600 for the top range. Well at the same time there existed a brand called Vertu. They were NOT better , just looked a bit more fancy ...but somehow they pretended to offer something very unique for the elite ( or probably better said for the people dumb enough to pay for it)
Anyway, they made phones starting from 3000 up to 20000

That to me is exactly the same as Richard Mille today.
Is a Richars mille costing 500,000 a bad watch ? No it is not but you paid probably 425,000 too much

Isn’t that the same for all price ranges ?
A 100$ Seiko 5 is doing the same as a 10K Rolex.

Back to the past I used Vertu phones for years and some components were really way better than your regular Nokia i.e. the Yamaha speakers which still blows away any modern phone. Full metal body, buttons and leather accents. Pieces of art they were.
