I have a great relationship with several ADs and never measure the spend or the time it takes. Don’t play the game. I love watches, and I want to know that I’m buying from a business that cares, and an SA that I connect with. If I don’t click with sales team, I don’t waste my time at the store. I ALWAYS ask to also speak with the owner/manager as well, not just the SA. It is a relationship, but not one based on how much you spend! That’s bullshit 100%.

If there is the slightest hint that I have to buy stuff I don’t want, I ask for the manager or owner, tell them what I think about that, show them a picture of my (and my wife’s) collection and exit the store and letting them know I will never return as a customer.

Before I walk out, I flip open my photos app, the look on their faces when they see my collection and my commitment to never give them my business. Well, that’s priceless!

I’m fortunate to have only done that twice. And in one case, I did it to the owner of one the largest AD’s in Los Angeles. A little over a week later, I got an apology along with a watch. You don’t earn my business playing games, you earn my business by selling me product I want, and I give you my money only for product I want. There is no rush and nothing life threatening about buying a watch, instant gratification can be met with Grey Dealers and you can pay the premium for it if you wish. I’ve done that too. Nothing wrong with it.

Welp,, that’s my $.02

It was between 2016 to 2017 I can't remember the exact date. My AD priced their popular Rolex at market rate then.

How much did you spend before being offered a SS GMT?

Weird. Bought my BLNR at retail then. It was sitting the case.

You must’ve been living in a 2024 market way back in 2016.

I went digging and realized I still have the 2016 receipt from my AD. The price was S$12,979, dated 19 Dec 2016. The MSRP was S$12,010 then. No there was no Daytona, BLNR or sub in my AD display case at MSRP then. Otherwise I would have bought them at MSRP. Why would I pay more for a watch if it is "sitting in a cold case"? It makes zero sense.

Do you have 2016 time stamped proof of your AD display case full of GMT?

My first Rolex was a GMT BLNR, which I waited about 9 months for. Three years later I received a BLRO (7 months after the registration), and in the meantime a Datejust blue and a green Sub.

Out of curiosity, are you in a big city? And does your AD only sell Rolex at that location or were they a part of a bigger jewelry store?

Poznań - one of the largest cities in Poland, with a population of over 500 thousand inhabitants and two AD Rolex. The one I buy from only has Rolex watches and jewelry.

My wife got mine for my birthday in 3 days as a last minute gift. We buy a lot of my wife’s jewelry along with my daughters there and my in laws have also made purchases there. For watches had bought a bulgari serpenti, a SD 43 the year before and a 5726 when it came out. Would be much harder today I think.

In April 2020, after expressing an interest in purchasing a Rolex watch with a local AD, I was offered both a 40 Yachtmaster Rhodium and a GMT CHNR. I purchased the YM, and in May my wife bought me the Rootbeer. How things have changed since 2020.

Damn wtf.

As always YMMV. They seem to care about milestones now. After you get vetted. My GMTs were insanely quick.

Cases were full of everything except stainless steel Daytona’s through 2017 in the states.

I wish I live in the states given the crazy sport Rolex inventory you have in 2017. I have to pay a premium for my GMT in 2016. States are a paradise for watch lovers.

I went back to one of my local ADs yesterday....I bought a DJ41 from this AD 2.5 years back and the rep remembered me. I told him I wanted gmt (BLNR or the new black/grey model). He laughed at me and said they are not even adding people to any gmt2 waitlist since they barely get it and currently, they have over 80 people but he said he can add me but it will easily be 2+ years from now. And then he also added that they have customers with over $20k purchase history and still waiting for a gmt2 after 2 years.
This is a high volume store inside a shopping mall. And this same AD has really terrible Yelp reviews for Rolex purchases (they only cater to high spend customers, apparently).

Now on the contrary at the AD I got my sub from, my rep there has already added me to the BLNR waitlist and told me it will be at least a year. She did say that they get it on occasion but mostly on oyster bracelet and jubilee is VERY HARD to come by. This was back in September.

So it totally depends on the AD/location. Which is typical of Rolex retail experience in the current market.

I have no idea that the earlier purchase in 2022 contributed to being able to buy the BLNR but it does seem so?!

Since picking up the BLNR on Jubilee in June, my SA has offered me both of these which I have turned down :

Was offered this after buying an upgraded center stone for my wife and an Oris Aquis. Combined total about $15k. Needless to say my wife LOVES the recent past and current state of “exhibition only” Rolex. She gets plenty of jewelry and I get a watch when I get the itch.

It all depends on the AD, I didn't spend much, got a Datejust for my wife, and had to put my name down on the list for a GMT batman and I got it after 13months.

A friend of mine got a Batman 2 y ago for his 50th from an AD in southern England with no history. Took about a year. I’m eating from a blnr and have bought a dj41 an explorer ii and a couple of tags and some jewellery for wife. over the years. No more than about £17k I guess

Anyone in LA have something to chime in here? I've bought two watches from Geary's at this point and curious. Maybe 15k total spend. Really want the BLNR on jubilee

I have waited a couple of years. NADA. Tried the two AD's in the area. I thought the smaller of the two might give me a slightly better opportunity as the larger one made it very clear that you would have to spend a considerable amount to even be "considered"

I have purchased 2 Rolex and 1 other piece from the smaller AD over a 3-4 year period and still get nothing but the usual runaround.

Wish we had other options for AD's in the area, but unfortunately we are limited to these two.
