Rolex warranty card Date question

I bought a new Rolex yesterday from an AD. I was looking through the box and noticed the warranty card has a hand written date from 9 months ago. Is this normal? Would an AD take in a returned Rolex and then resell it as new or am I just over thinking it? Thoughts on a new Rolex bought today and the warranty card is dated from February?

The Rolex warranty should start the day a new watch is purchased from the AD. So if the date is nine months prior to your purchase, I would ask the AD about that. That’s a fifteen % reduction in the life of your watch’s warranty.

One thing you might want to check is the date format listed on the card. Depending on where you purchased the watch, it could be mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy. Maybe that explains it?

Paid for it over the phone a a week ago but was only able to pick it up yesterday. This AD has been awesome btw, I really wouldn’t think they would try to screw me over, whicjph they didn’t. It is just my first Rolex purchase and my ignorance.

First thought I had, as well. I believe ALL Rolex ADs use European date format, no matter the location. OP, congrats on your new R9lex!

Yes, the AD is supposed to use the European date format (it even shows that on the warranty card), but when we picked up my Rolex at the AD on May 22, 2021, he filled out the date as 05.22.2021 instead of 22.05.2021. But, since there isn't a 22nd month, I don't think a Rolex RSC would misinterpret the date. (Still bugs me a bit, though.)

It's not just a European format. Most of the world uses Day/Month/Year.

It seems to be the natural more intuitive format (to me).

When I used to work with folks from different parts of the world I always found it a bit of a nuisance to have to clarify … do you mean May 6 or June 5

I assume Rolex uses the European date format, because they are located in Geneva, Switzerland, which is, of course, in Europe. Kathleen, your AD made an error, when filling out your warranty card, but as you mentioned, it’s obvious what it should say. If it bugs you, they can get a corrected card from Rolex.

The warranty card’s earlier date could mean it was a display model or held for a previous customer. ADs generally don’t resell returned watches as new, but it’s worth contacting them to clarify. This will ensure you’re fully confident in your purchase and warranty coverage.

It bugs me only because I tend to be a perfectionist. But, since it's obvious that the month isn't "22," I'm not going to worry about trying to get a corrected warranty card. And I have the receipt for payment, which clearly shows the correct date, so I'm covered if anything happens.
