Are you concerned your Rolex AD may know your selling stuff? This is a crazy market for the hard-to-get stuff.

You’ll be all right with others to rotate to and you’re in a good area for that much “Boom” watch.

I just read your brilliant post. That Breguet is a stunner, and those other two are equally interesting choices. Wow, just breathtaking. Really appreciate the kind words!

Thanks! Sounds like we're on the same wavelength. Gotta love the “less but better” strategy!

Appreciate it! Funny story with the blue Sky-Dweller—I loved the complication but always wanted it on a Jubilee bracelet. Some suggested swapping it myself, but I’m not much of a tinkerer with new watches. I’ll circle back and get the Jubilee version from my AD eventually.

Yeah, it was tough letting some go, but if you check out my other post on the 11 series Daytona, you’ll see why I’m all about the 12 series now. Kept my two Zenith Daytonas though—no way I’m parting with those!

Thanks, Kat! Funny thing is I wear mine on the right, but I’m not left-handed. Guess I’m just a bit ambidextrous!

Cheers! I used to think yellow and rose gold were a bit too loud for me, but hey, getting older changes your tastes, right? Lol. I’ve definitely warmed up to them.

Appreciate it, Peter. The post is Patek-related, but since most of the trades involved Rolex, I wanted to update the crew here as to why my collection suddenly lost some halo references. Mods can move it if needed!

Appreciate it! Yeah, I’m pretty happy with the smaller collection now. Not sure for how long, mind :). A little more diverse and less Rolex-heavy, though I’ve still got plans to add two 12 series Daytonas back into the mix—black dial SS and grey dial Oysterflex. And like I mentioned earlier, I’ll eventually rebuy the Sky-Dweller with a Jubilee bracelet because that movement is just too good to let go.

No, not really. If you check out the timeline, the only recent Rolex was the Sky-Dweller. I made it clear to my AD when I picked it up that I preferred the Jubilee, but the Oyster came in first, and I couldn’t resist. It turned out to be the wrong move since the wearing experience on that particular watch is massively different IMO. The two Daytonas I had for years, so it’s not really flipping. Plus, I usually trade rather than sell outright—feels different, right? No public ads from me, just keeping the collection fun and fresh.

Exactly! No regrets on letting go of the 11 series Daytonas. I blame Rolex for teasing me with the new 12 series. Now I just *have* to have one! Lol.

Congratulations! I completely understand your perspective. I’ve recently trimmed my collection as well.

In my case I traded in my two 116 Daytonas for a Patek 5186g. I would like to have a smaller rotation and wear what I have more with some variety (I have a 5396 as well)

Like you I will replace one of the Daytonas with a Black 112.
I’ve done everything through my AD (both Rolex & Patek)…keeps the hobby fresh!
Enjoy!

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who feels the need to consolidate once in a while! And it’s wild that you traded two 11 series Daytonas as well. Do you feel the same way I do, that the new 12 series kind of overshadows the 11 series in terms of aesthetics?

Totally agree—getting your collection dialed in through proper consolidation and fine-tuning is key to really enjoying this hobby to the fullest!

Congrats! That's a big move, but it's all about getting what you want. Looks amazing. This is what I love about watch collecting...there's no right or wrong....it's an emotional hobby and you are never wrong to clean house and get what you really want.

Getting the collection condensed to a manageable size has been rewarding.

Thanks! Yes, the trade worked out well. Especially the outgoing price of the acquisition is well below comparable market levels.

Totally agree, 100%. I don’t think a lot of people realize how much our tastes evolve over time. What was once at the top of our list can start feeling old pretty quick. It’s definitely an emotional hobby, and sometimes refreshing the collection or narrowing it down to just a few key pieces can be incredibly satisfying. I see it as a natural progression as we focus in on the references that really speak to us over time.

$131k USD for an "as new" fully serviced, and unused since, 5980 Rose is pretty impressive, so I definitely agree. That said, it’s crucial for members with large collections to stay aware of the current market and the big challenges dealers are facing when it comes to moving high-end pieces like these. In my last two major trades, including this one, I found that dealers are more willing to make concessions to convert these heavy-hitter pieces into multiple watches that are easier to move, with more accessible price points for the current market downturn.

As an example - It’s a lot easier for them to offload a couple of Ceramic Daytonas than it is to sell a single watch worth $50k to $60k. That’s why, in my trade, I turned one watch into five that are easier to move. For anyone with a large collection, now’s the time to consolidate if you’ve been thinking about it. Dealers need to shift those high-priced, harder-to-move pieces to keep cash flow going, so there are definitely deals to be made!

When I read your post I felt the same, so you’re definitely not the only one!

I do feel the same about the 11 series vs the 12. I enjoyed both of my 116s very much, but I was wearing them less and less over time. However my Black did get a lot of wear between the two. I will replace the Black first.

G-Luxe actually posted this deal on their Instagram page. He did a competition for $500 on who could guess how much money had to be added to the deal from either G-Luxe or the customer. Answer was obviously an even trade.

Good for you, sometimes less is more. Consolidate to wear the pieces more often makes sense. Great looking watch! How’s it wear, real heavy or comfortable? That’s a lot of gold!
