Omega Seamaster Worldtimer Vs Rolex Exp II

Hi All,
I’m currently evaluating picking up one of these two. I love the dial of the Omega with the northern hemisphere displayed. I was also thinking it might fly a bit under the radar. My biggest hesitation is the size. Less about the diameter and more with the thickness. It’s a chunky monkey.

I’ve always been an Explorer II fan, but it is a bit more boring, for a lack of a better word. But, is it still too recognizable as a Rolex, even though it’s not quite as instantly identifiable as a Sub.

From a robustness, I’m guessing either would be fine. Just curious what your thoughts are.

I should have specified, a current Exp II 226570. So 42mm Exp II vs the 43mm Omega.

I prefer the Explorer II for it's robustness and go anywhere, do anything, for me. The World Timer is nice but I see it as a niche watch and it would not get much wear for me.

I’m gonna go against the crowd and say the WT. it’s 43 but believe me when I tell you it wears smaller than that. More like a 41 because of the lugs. My Longines 42 Zulu wears larger than this. The interchangeable strap is a plus as well. Display case back not to mention the uniqueness of the piece from Omega. It’s a home run for me. I’ve had mine 3+ years now. No regrets. Cheers

I love the Explorer II! But also love this this Aqua Terra - has a similar look to it with the orange hand.

I’ve owned both in the last 12 months, sold the Rolex Explorer 2 fairly quickly, didn’t bond with it at all, preferred the Aqua Terra Worldtimer which I kept for longer but ultimately I found the dial too busy and hard to read even though it’s beautifully executed so sold that too. My GMT’s are currently a Rolex BLNR and the Omega Planet Ocean Good Planet GMT both of which I much prefer, which by the way has an Orange GMT hand and Orange numbers on the ceramic bezel, I’ll post a picture later…..

It sounds like you’ve been through an interesting journey with those pieces! It’s great that you found your groove with the BLNR and the Omega Planet Ocean Good Planet GMT—both are fantastic watches, and the unique orange accents on the Omega definitely make it stand out. It’s understandable that the Explorer II and Aqua Terra Worldtimer didn’t quite resonate, as personal preference and readability play a huge role in enjoying a watch. Looking forward to seeing that picture of the Omega—sounds like a real gem!
