the 42mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph models, consumer preferences have evolved alongside the brand's advancements in movement technology:
Caliber 2385 (1998–2021): This movement, based on the Frédéric Piguet 1185, is appreciated for its slim profile and reliable performance. Many enthusiasts value its established track record and the smooth operation of its chronograph functions. Its longstanding use in the Royal Oak line has garnered a loyal following among collectors who favor traditional craftsmanship. Hodinkee Caliber 4401 (2021–Present): Introduced in 2021, the in-house Caliber 4401 has been met with enthusiasm for its modern features, including a column wheel, vertical clutch, and flyback function. Consumers appreciate its extended 70-hour power reserve and the seamless integration of the chronograph mechanism. The movement's technical advancements and in-house development resonate with those seeking contemporary innovation in their timepieces. Monochrome Watches Overall, while the Caliber 2385 remains respected for its reliability and classic appeal, the Caliber 4401 is increasingly preferred by consumers who prioritize modern engineering and enhanced functionality in their Royal Oak Chronographs |
