Is SS Daytona obtainable msrp? (Sorry for the newbie question)
Hello,
I am new to the forum. I currently wear a Sub Date 116610ln and the Air King 116900. I recently tried on a new black dial SS Daytona. It an amazing looking watch in person. It's my on my wish list now. Does anyone know what is the chances and what it actually takes to get one from an AD? I don't see myself buying one on the grey market for awhile, and wanted to know if it was even attainable. How long it usually takes and how much average you would have to spend? Thanks in advance. |

Depends on your spend history, AD relationship and luck.
Some wait 8 years, some 8 months, Some still waiting…… Your location and market also come into play. Daytona’s are hard together in any configuration.. Happy Hunting, |

No, lot’s of people say they get them from an AD - my AD never has anything in stock. Go grey - great service, get it tomorrow. Although you will pay market prices. On the bright side I just purchased a Root Beer for basically retail yesterday via grey.

Being in LA doesn't help your odds. Know many people with a 6 figure spend history who waited years before getting one.

There is a reason that they are going for twice retail in the secondary market. That has actually come down quite a bit from a couple of years ago.
I had this very conversation with the manager at my AD. His answer was some where around $250k in spend to get one at retail. And that's in jewelry, not watches which have the smallest margin in the store. |

Yes it is obtainable. But the likelihood of getting one is low, as per the advice shared above.

Welcome to TRF! People posting so far have pretty much summed it up. Definitely a slim and none situation, unless you have a big spend history. Doesn't hurt to ask your AD to put you on the "list", but obviously don't bank on it. I would start comparing and shopping on the grey market. If the older 116 version interests you, I believe they sell for a little less than the new 126 model.

Zero chance.
Ask yourself why would anyone give you 15K ? Rolex AD’s are not known to be philanthropist.

And thats exactly what is wrong with Rolex watches today some have been brainwashed into thinking you must have this AD relationship stuff and spend a zillion before you can buy certain watches. Ask yourself this does these so called VIP customers buy then sell to the grey market. As on the grey market most all of these hard to get Rolex watches are available at crazy price to those willing to pay, simply because now to many Rolex watches have become just ££$$ objects

It's doable if you have a good relationship with your AD.
As a walk-in, chances are slim to none but closer to none. |

ADs will have them in the CPO program, but much higher than MSRP. You get a watch fully serviced by Rolex with a new two year warranty.
That’s a much more likely way to get one. |

Welcome to TRF, and yes it is possible. Am sure you know, right now there is still quite a bit of demand, so please be a bit patient as Rolex is opening another manufacturing facility in the next year to so.

Winning the lottery is obtainable and about the same odds as scoring a white SS Daytona at msrp. This is the reality of aiming for the tip of the Rolex spear in desirability.
To put this in context: Much like the lottery you can go out a buy 5000 tickets a night forever and still never win just like spending $100k a year at a AD and never scoring a SS Daytona.

Depends on your AD. Since 2019, the shortest waiting time I've heard is 6 weeks for a black dial, no spend history, NY Tri State area dealer. Meanwhile, in the same area, there are AD's turning customers away.
And while I was in Hong Kong in 2023, I saw a tourist being offered multiple precious metal Daytonas, basically take your pick. |

Unless a fluke occurs there’s zero chance you are getting a SS Daytona without between 100k and 200k recent spend history with an authorized Rolex dealer.

I just looked at grey market on the Daytona... My gosh, do not buy this watch. It's a little over priced at MSRP but at 2.5X retail, that's foolish. (BTW - I was foolish and purchased a 116500 earlier this year for $25K and I actually hated it so much I flipped it in 6 weeks - the good news is that I was able to get most of my money back on it - I just considered it a "rental")
There are so many better chronographs you could buy or other Rolex references that are not selling at huge premiums on the grey at this time. Look at a used Gen 2 VC-49150, look at Zenith, Omega, JLC... Heck you can get a full gold Omega Speedmaster on the grey for $8K less than a SS Daytona. Daytona and Patek SS Nautilus/Aquanauts are just crazy stupid expensive at this time. Don't buy the hype. |

Regardless of what you hear, this watch is definitely available from an AD at retail. The challenge is to make an AD want to sell you one. It may not happen overnight, but people who click with the AD with a genuine passion for this exact watch do and can get them. Reach out to the owner/manager of an AD, if they will allow it, and start your journey there.

I salute to these people who makes it happen as their 1st and only purchase to obtain a SS Daytona at an AD. It's definitely a hard uphill road to take. I'm currently doing this to get a royal oak. It's been 2 years exact. I think my hunt is about to an end with fruition soon. But Id still like to meet one of these people and shake their hand. Hopefully some of the luck/vibe/chrisma can rub off.

Very difficult to near impossible without a $100k spend history. I’ve heard of the occasional miracle but like others have said similar chances to winning the lottery. I’d just go grey or choose a different model.

There were 4 Daytonas at the Bucherer store in White Plains, NY last week on the CPO program. Didn’t ask the price as I’m not interested. Even the sales guy commented that it was a big number to have on hand. Also a Clint Eastwood, GMT on CPO, lovely watch.

I once had a glimmer of hope that a SS Daytona was attainable at MSRP. That was until I found out the family owned AD I had a relationship with lost their status.
