Vintage Sub 16808 bracelet help

Hello crew,
I recently inherited a circa 1987 16808 Submariner from my step-father. I took it to a local vintage watch shop to have a link removed from the bracelet and I was told there that the bracelet had permanent or semi-permanent pins in it instead of screws and that it would need to be sent to a watchmaker to have the pin(s) removed in order to remove a link. I'm interested to know if this is correct for this era bracelet or is it abnormal? The pictures represent both sides of the same end of the bracelet.
Thanks.

Looks a bit unusual, but I'm no expert on these gold bracelets. Can you post good photos of the clasp and the blades, including any stamping and engraving, so we can see which bracelet you have.

I understand it to be correct and is known as a pin bracelet.

Pin and Sleeve.
One end of the pin is a bit thicker and secures with pressure.

Interferance fit

Hi there,

The pins are an interferance fit and to release, need to be pushed or knocked through from one side to the other.

I had a couple of bracelects like this on gold subs in the 90's.

I would strongly suggest taking it to a Rolex trained watchmaker as it can get messy quite quickly if you're trying to do it yourself without the proper tools.
