He advised that Patek filed reps were scooping these up for their Museums.

I wish I tuned in to find a little history on the watch, but it looked like the owner was going to fly to the Patek factory to negotiate...

Magnificent Peter! A mechanical perpetual calendar in 1914. Sigh, it was handed down to him and still in perfect condition, even with spare parts. Sigh.

Afraid in those days Frans they really did build exceptional pocket watches.But Frans think about John Harrisons watches when Harrison's son William set sail for the West Indies, with the H4, aboard the ship Deptford on 18 November 1761. They arrived in Jamaica on 19 January 1762, where the watch was found to be only 5.1 seconds slow! in almost 2 months.So next time when your Rolex or any watch is just a few seconds out simply think of John Harrison who made a mechanical watch almost 300 hundred years ago that was more accurate than any mechanical wrist watch today,better than some quartz.

I saw that show as well......not often you see decent watches on the show so that was a nice change.

They need to teach the guy how to say "Patek" properly.....maybe it's just his accent.

Is that art lost? I know Patek can still do it but will they? The Calibre 89 was perhaps the last time Patek made such a statement.

Wow! That is a beautiful watch. Neverhteless, I think I would be inclined to put it up for auction. Though I wonder how much tax if any would have to be paid since it was an inheritance.

Padi, thanx for that link, it was quite funny to see that guy say "no... really?... NO!" could you imagine the previous appraiser hoping and praying that he would sell it to him for that huge $6000? Either big scam or pretty incompetent...
