Looking for a NEW 16710 or 16600 at an AD?
Over the weekend we popped into the Mall of America here in Minnesota, so just to kill some time I went into the two ADs to look around. The Osterman's store has a very nice Rolex selection on display, with almost every Rolex model and variety in their case. Much more to see than the Ben Bridge store downstairs. They even had “both” generations of GMT-Masters in stock – it was surprising to see a 16710 Pepsi still in stock, right next to the new 116710 ceramic bezel model. They also still had a classic 16600 Sea-Dweller in stock. So - those of you looking for these supposedly unobtainable watches? Just go to the largest shopping mall on earth and you'll find them right before your eyes.
I was wearing my "V" serial 16600 Sea-Dweller. So, what did I try on during my visit? First, a black dialed Milgauss (loved it), then a new 41mm DateJust II (loved it), and finally the SeaDweller DeepSea (didn't like it). To me, the SDDS in person seemed a bit too much like a cartoon caricature of a Rolex diver’s watch. I’m bothered not just by all the extraneous writing on the ring around the dial, but mostly by the bulky thickness and height of the case. I know some guys here love it, but for me, the SDDS is visually just too much -- and makes me love my 16600 even more. I will give the SDDS credit though -- the Glidelock rapid adjustment feature is a very cool design (opening up that little “secret hatch” in the clasp) and fun to operate. The one surprise was how much I liked that DateJust II. The one I tried on was two-tone steel and rose gold, with a white dial and stick markers. The thicker, wider, fluted bezel, the overall proportions and styling – very nice. It works. I could actually see myself in one. They also had a healthy assortment of Daytona and Day-Date II varieties as well. I didnt see a Stainless Daytona in the case, and didn't ask whether they had one in the back. I was also reminded why I love doing business here on the forums. The sales people I encountered were not only snooty, but pretty much both clueless and passionless about what they were selling. Cheers, Dave |

Thanks for the heads up on NOS. Any idea on the numbers (price) on 16710?

If it's the same Osterman that I was in
2 months ago, then it's the 16710B (pepsi) Z serial. I believe it's Z3xxxxx, and it has the 3185 movement. It would have been sold long ago if it has the 3186 imho.
The price tag on it was $5750 + tax. They are not discounting it. |
