Patek Philippe from Sears?
Hello everyone, I have a question about my future mother in-laws Patek. I have yet to see the watch but I do have questions on what I know about it so far. It was her Grandmas watch which was purchased at Sears, in the 40s I believe, Has anyone heard about Sears carring Pateks? It does have a stretch metal band on it, So I can only assume this was a band put on in the 60s or 70s aftermarket. She did have it appraised, I think it came out to be around 3k or something I have no idea what condition it is in. I am sorry I do not have any pics, I will see her tomorrow and will get some pics then. My main interest is that it is from Sears, If anyone has info on what kind of watches Sears carried or any intereting facts that could pertain to this situation would be greatly appreiciated.
All the info I have provided is second hand from my fiance I am not trying to start another "clinton-rolex" thread (if anyone saw that) And I do not have the watch on hand to take a picture of it, sorry |

Hi 2005 rivers, welcome. I have never heard of Patek Philippe being sold at Sears, but stranger things have happened. We'll look forward to the photos.

I have NEVER heard of Patek being sold at Sears, especially back in that time frame.
I anxiously await the pics. Perhaps she got the band at Sears or something if it is a Patek.

Nothing from Sears would surprise me.
At one time you could order a house (shipped as a kit) from their catalog. They even sold a schoolhouse in kit form.

Ok, I have a few pictures, they did not turn out as good as i thought they would, Nor is the watch what I thought it would be, But it is cool, very small, original box. I asked again where she thought it came from, she said it was Sears or Montgomery Ward, still bizzar.
Give me a minute and I will load up the pictures |

pic of patek
Sorry the pictures are so bad, I only brought my phone to take pic cause it takes good pictures of my watches, but this watch is soo small it was hard to get detail.
One thing I can say is it is cool to find a watch that has a unique story behind it, this is what I love about watches The back has a design on it, you can only see part of it to get an idea of it The pic where I am holding it gives you an idea of how small it is The box is cool too The bracelet is not what I thought it would be, I think it could be original |

I called two people I consider gurus of Patek (especially vintage)
now they are not the end all of knowledge but they will forget more about Patek than I will ever know. Both agree Patek was never sold at Sears, they both said Patek has always maintained a very close exclusive distribution chain and Sears wouldn't be what they wanted imagewise Cool old Patek, its legit for sure and nice to have the proper box. I think they are mistaken about where it was purchased, perhaps there was even a store in the town "Sears Jewelers" with no relation to Sears and Roebuck BUT who knows, I am VERY intrigued to hear what others say, PS Another reason I doubt it was purchased at Sears is Sears has NEVER been a store for high end, they have always marketed themselves to the common American working class and Patek never fit into that group

Or maybe Grammy told Gramps she bought it at Sears. Having just come through the Depression, reliable and responsible old Gramps may not understand splurging on a high-end handcrafted watch that does exactly the same thing as his Timex. "Patek is just a woman's version of a Timex, dear." He never knew the difference.
Either way--cool looking watch.

Awatch hit the nail on the head
The watch most likely was sold at Roebuck, that of course was the high end purveyor at the time . Roebuck was on the third floor and only accessed by the keyed elevator. |

If you have any kind of serial number or case number, You can pay Patek to extract the ownership archive to find out the origin of the watch. If reported properly, the watch should be able to be traced back to the point of original distribution.
The request form is on the PP website. |

Don't forget that Sears Roebuck and many of the catalogue shopping outlets were considered the prime outlets in the days before strip malls and the internet. I don't know for sure but it wouldn't surprise me.
