Is Rolex going BLING?

Hey All,

I'm a newbie here (first post actually) and I must say, I'm impressed by all you Rolex enthusiasts. You guys seem to know Rolex inside and out.

I don't own any Rolex watches and this is because I am still in university and studying not making money. I will save that for the future and hope to live up to the Rolex saying, "A crown for every achievement". Maybe I will get one when university graduation or wedding day comes! =)

Anyways, I like the classic Rolex models...Air King, Date, Datejust, Explorer, Daytona...etc but it seems to me that Rolex is going more bling bling these days. I'm worried that maybe some of the models I have meantioned might be discontinued in the future? (Say, 5-10 years later) I doubt they would be completly thrown off the line because I see alot of proud owners showing their vintage models such as "Air King-Date" and "Oysterdate" in the forum. Should I be concerned that any Rolex models will be discontined in the future and become replaced by the new bling bling watches of nowadays? What do you guys think?

Daniel

I don't know about "bling" but Rolex cases are definitely getting larger in diameter and the bracelets are greatly improved.

Them Rolexes - they are a changin'!

Rolex is the least "bling" out there. The only less "bling" maybe Casio :)

If you count the PCLs as bling, then yes. Otherwise, I think my watches for the most part have been very understated.

The only watch in the Rolex lineup that would be blingy for me would be the Leopard Daytona and the GMT ice.

My friend was showing me an automobile magazine the other day. There were many high end watch brands (my spelling may be off) Ulysse Nardine, Romaine Jerome and more of the like. He was showing me pictures.....I looked at my wrist and there it was my new DJII two tone. I thought it was pretty blingy or maybe less classic and more fashion oriented. Compared to those other watches in the magazine my DJ II was simple, classy almost bland and boring (not to me) from a design standpoint. I do not believe any Rolex is Blingy until you start adding diamonds, rubies, saphires etc.... Seriously, look at the Ulysse Nardine GMT Model or Their Maxi Marine and compare them to a Rolex GMT or Sub.

Would say if you are "advertising".. you need several strategies..

1. Fashion - You need as much bling as you can get...
2. Heritage - say Exp I
3. sports - subs etc

Thanks for the welcome guys. =) Brkanand, I appreciate the good luck!

If you check out the new 2009 collection on the Rolex website, you can find Datejust everose, Daytona, Day Date II with diamonds around the bezel. Personally, I prefer watches with no diamonds around the bezel, I`m sure many guys would agree. I understand women like diamonds and it suit them well.

I just hope Rolex keep and maintain the classic, simple look. The Leopard Daytona sure doesn`t have that classic look...maybe it appeals to others though!

Since I`m new here I will post pictures of watches I own:
(No Rolex here, there is Citizen, Seiko, Swiss Army, Puma, and few others!)

Actually, 2 watches (Swiss Army and Seiko) is my father`s watch.
