Do you use a watch winder with your vintage Oyster Perpetuals?

Interested in your opinion and history with them.

I used to use a winder but have changed my mind. With an older watch and recently serviced with modern oils, it may be better to avoid the wear and just let it run down between uses.

I disagree. If you will be wearing it semi-regularly, keep it on the winder. That will prevent the "unscrew crown, set, rescrew crown" that on a vintage watch is not a great idea. I had a stem pull off completely on my 1968 DJ. A Rolex is designed to be used, not stored away. Oils gunk up if it sits too long.

It probably depends on how vintage your vintage is. My reasoning is that it will be easier to get the vintage cleaned and oiled in the future than find spare parts if you leave it running all its life.

In my case, I am referring to my 1953 Explorer that was worn on a daily basis from 1953 to 2001, which was cleaned/oiled about every five to eight years. At this point I will only wear it a month or so at a time and when it is next put away, it will just be left to run down.

Never used a winder with watches with just a simple complication all any watch needs if stored,is just a small manual wind say once a month. Been doing just that for over 30 years,I did have a two OPs from late 60s early 70s my sons wear now.And these watches are still worn and wound almost daily things like crowns stems and tubes are just serviceable parts if ever needed.

Yes, I use a winder on my vintage piece with date function because without the quickset date feature, I think changing the date a lot is worse in the long run.
