my AD has just called me and given me the estimate

there is apparently an extra charge because its vintage

anyway
the estimate with service charge is £350 and that is including a new plexiglass.
i asked if it was the exact same as the plexiglass that is already in and i am assured it is.
if i didnt want the plexi they wouldn't/couldn't guarantee the work
they also said they would ploish for free but i declined the offer

so all in all i am happy except its now 14 weeks to wait

Yes the vintage surcharge is a pain, but I guess it is just an extra insurance for Rolex as more is likely to go wrong with a vintage watch than a modern one during the 1 year service guarantee.
The reason they change the plexi is they can crack and craze with age and can't be guaranteed to be waterproof.
Personally I think the crystal is a small price to pay to keep the dial, hands and movement safe from water ingress.

I'm 8 weeks in on my latest service and I'm dreaming of that call every night how sad is that
I hope your wait doesn't seem so long as mine has this time.

Good luck with the service although 14 weeks seems a bit excessive./\

Yes, mine was changed just as a matter of course at it's last service. The old glass was sent back along with the watch. It is totally unmarked, but they still changed it.

Yep the Plexi Crystal is included in the service charge.
It's a shame the Sapphire Crystal isn't that's just shy of another 100 quid
