Padi's Rolex Le Mans
I came across this ad today from 1964, introducing the "new Rolex chronograph," the "Le Mans." Padi, is this like yours?
I have a similar ad from 1965 introducing the "new" Daytona.

$210 for a watch that I'm not that attracted to? Definitely send me 3 (i'd give two away as gifts)... haha.
Thanks for posting that old time ad, Subfiend.

Interested position, any reason why they photographed it upside down?

Great add Dave but mine is from the early 80s and with a bit of discount think Dad paid almost £800.Like the way they say the 17 jewel movement was accurate enough for official use.As in those days the SS Daytonas was not COSC tested, now when they introduced the gold ones they were COSC tested but all the S.steel ones were not COSC rated, both same movement. And now the S,steel one are more prized than the gold ones, crazy old world we live in now.But if it was not for the current Daytona fever and the name Rolex on the dial.Or perhaps now there current value don't think most non WIS types would even give them a second glance. After all we are talking about a watch with a ETA Valjoux movement as the engine.

I registered my interest and bid on these two watches at the October 06 auction. Both went for more than I was prepared to pay (bearing in mind I would have had to pay another 8% through currency conversion).
Went for approx £20,000. I have never seen one of these in the flesh and was a bit worried about the slack in the bracelet. I got cold feet early on in the auction and stopped bidding. I am kind of regretting it now, though. Went for approx £12,500, just a little over my budget. I have seen these in specialist dealers for £15,000 though. This beauty was way out of my budget and went for approx £43,000. It is a rare and highly sought after piece.

I don't know why the watch is upside down in the ad. I don't even know why the ad appeared in the first place. This is the first and only reference I have ever seen to the "Le Mans" name.
