Do many of you own one? If so, what do you suggest? I don't wear my sub very often so I think I just may need one.

Winders start at about US$100 for a cheap one and go upwards from there. If you have a Sub, the only complication you'd have to reset (other than actual time) is the date, which is no biggie.

Is that worth having a winder for a watch you rarely wear? Wear-wise, it makes no difference if you leave it running (on a winder) or sitting dormant in the box. The oils inside the watch will lose viscosity if constantly in motion, or if dormant will dry up or gum-up... so it's six of one, half dozen of the other.

If you don't have the time to reset the watch, then perhaps, but since you don't wear it often, I'd question the rationale for one. I don't have one. It's not a big deal to reset and wind a watch the night before or even the morning of, that I decide to wear it.

You're most welcome. Winders are great if you have many automatic watches or even one or two with many complications that are difficult or time consuming to reset. Or perhaps if you have a few autos that you rotates every few days.

You also get what you pay for. The winders on the low-end are not the most reliable and tend to be noisy. You'd have to spend about $200 for a decent one, which would still be pretty base.

Again, your call, but I had to throw in my extra two cents!

I bought a dual and use it, but I also have three autos that need to be wound. I only have one Manual wind, so when I wear it, there is one left off the winder, no biggie to wind and set it though.

I've got to differ. I hate to reset my watches, but then all of mine have one or more complications. I have a quad, a triple and a single winder. (Plus I have a spare triple in case one of the others goes down.) And I don't have room for all my watches on them, so it's like playing musical chairs. I always have to be wearing one of my automatics to keep it wound.

What can I say, I'm lazy.

I have two single winders. While I wear one, the other two are on a winder. The GMT II is nice to have ready to wear. Arguments can be made for and against. Good winders cost quite a bit. I have an Orbita, which is about the best but the other is a Wolf 2.0 and I like it as much as the Orbita. =) maverick

I have an Orbita Sparta winder - mainly to keep my JLC Master Moon running, because it has a lot to set if it runs down. I also use it for my Seiko, which can't be wound manually (that is a huge pain, by the way). The Rolex is out for sale with someone, so with only two autos in the house I can get away with one winder. If the Rolex ends up coming back unsold, I may need to get another winder.......I hate setting watches as well.

I have 2 winders. One Orbita Bellino single winder, and one Orbita Sparta double winder. I have 6 auto's in which I only wear 4 in real rotation, so being able to wind 3 off wrist works pretty good for me.

From my experince, do not buy a no name winder. I bought a double winder last March, I do not remember the make but it was around $450. It had a beautiful box with storage for 4 more watches not being wound in a built in drawer. It had a major design flaw. The winder was built holding both watches on a single disk. The winder died in 3 months. I took it back and my jeweler got me another Orbita. I later found out, if you have a winder that 2 watches share the mechanism, they have to be equal in weight and you can not leave just one watch on it or it will be un balanced, create strain on the motor and burn out the motor. Bad design. So I say if you want a double winder, get one that each can rotate independatly as well as be able to set different turns per day for what watch you put on it.

I have been thinking of getting one of those Eilux winders, but not sure what the quality is like - anyone out there have experience with these?

No. But I have two LeBlanc triple winders that I've been very pleased with. I also have an Underwood single winder that had to be returned for service within a month after getting it. But since it was fixed, it's been running for nearly two years without a hitch.
