GMT Master or Master II?

Hello,

I am going to take a look at this watch tomorrow.

there are some obvious inaccuracy in his overall description and from what I heard when speaking to him over the phone however I do not think he is too "watch savvy" so I am not going to quickly assume it is a fake/scam.

anyways

his description of the watch mentions "pepsi" MODEL #16760 SER#837xxx

here is the picture of the watch, obviously it is not the pepsi model and the dial is a gmt master...

he also claims the watch is around 20 years old.

I know it is a bad picture but I am going to see the watch tomorrow and I kindly do not want to bother this guy any further with questions until I see it in person.

let me know what you think

thanks

If it is a 16760, it is a FAT LADY. The case should be thicker. Thus no Pepsi insert, the coke insert is proper.

I do not like the dial, not showing the swiss t < 25 at the bottom. It may be refinished. This is also common for this model which used to sustain some dial inconsistensies (spotting) causing people to refinish or change the dial.

Good luck!

let us know how it goes...

It looks genuine to me, but could go either way. It is either a 16750 or 16700. 16700 has the sapphire crystal. It is hard for me to judge the model from the pics. If it is a 16760, it has the wrong dial, since the 16760 dial should read GMT II. The coke bezel insert did not come on a 16750. It first appeared on the 16760.

Most Rolex people don't know one mode number from another. This is a watch forum so most people here are more watch savy regarding Rolex model numbers. I bet if you walked up to 10 total strangers wearing Submariners, maybe one would know the correct model number for their Submariner.

As Norm noted, it is missing the swiss t <25 from the bottom so the dial could be refinished, or fake. It is a tough call from one photo.

when I take a look at it tomorrow I am also going to open it

what number(s) should I look for to be on the movement...

he did mention that it just came from his watchmaker polished etc... so I am also going to bring this into question when I check it out

just referenced it at the vintage rolex forum and it answered a few more questions, so aside from the t < 25 missing is there anything else

You may want to look at GMTMasterHistory.com for more information on the different calibers.

It does look like it had a recent polish. That is no big deal. Ask about the service history.

No mysterious dial - FAKE or REFINISHED...

So, I just checked it out... the guy had no idea what he was talking about...

long story short, it is a fat lady gmt master ii, but the dial has been refinished poorly and the polishing job which was done to it was horrible.

Thanks TRF, I would have spotted the dial in person however knowing before hand really helps.
