I have an 8 million serial number Sub under-going a full service & crystal replacement with my Rolex dealer (in-house, not through Rolex), and I'm wondering about its proper description.

I see the term matte used frequently for dials on Subs of this vintage, and I'm wondering what the differences are between the various finishes in the late 80s and early 90s for quick-set, sapphire crystal Subs.

Is there any sort of organised reference for these watches?
