First Rolex—Thanks TRF!

After hanging out on the forum for about a month, I am now the owner of a submariner. I spent most of it lurking-seems like just about every question I had had already been discussed at length in some post or other.

I took a trip to the local AD to check out the latest models, which confirmed my interest in a no-date sub. Back to the forum to consider the 5513 versus the 14060m, the non-COSC versus the COSC.

Finally decided I’m a 2-line guy. I felt like I should prefer the 5513, but the raised indices were what smiled at me. So, I finally pulled the trigger—thanks very much to 757doc001 for a beautiful watch and a smooth transaction, and to Kanger for his help.

I got the watch in time to take it on vacation with me last week:

14060M & Sandy

I am even more pleased with the quality of the Rolex than I had expected. I am not second-guessing the raised indices—I like the way they catch the light and give depth to the dial. The 93150 bracelet was a pleasant surprise—I had always heard bad things about the rattly Rolex bracelets, and was planning to slap a NATO on it right away, since I wouldn’t have time to go by the jeweler before going out of town. But it happened to fit my wrist out of the box—and I found it to be quite comfortable, and much more secure than the butterfly clasp I am used to.

Back home for father’s day—I did try out a NATO, seen here with my eight-year old and “her” Alpha GMT:

Fathers day watches

So, a happy ending. Or it would be, if my time on the forum hadn’t got me thinking about a birth year red 1680. Maybe next year…

Meanwhile, thanks, TRF!

Congratulations on acquiring a fine timepiece. I've always liked the no-Date Sub, a classic, timeless watch. Enjoy.
