Quick-set Feature.

This is one feature I truly miss about my old GMT Coke. I travel a lot and the convenience of being able to set a new time zone by using the crown and "jumping" the hour hand was quick, easy, and just... cool. It's not such a big deal having to wind the hour hand around the dial on my Daytona when I travel, but it would be nice to have that old quickset capability. I also miss (and used) the GMT hand (I had it set to my bosses time in Japan) and am drooling over the new EX II, we will see if I can restraing myself when it is available. But, I had a couple questions on the quick-set, anyone know the answers?

1. Generally, for you really smart and techie watch people... Is this such a hard feature to implement? Why can't every Rolex offer it?

2. Does the new Sub have Quick Set?

3. Anyone know if the new EXP II will have it? (hope so).

1. All Rolex date have quick set today, but not the same as the GMT movements. You screw out the crown to winding mode and pull it
one more step and then you can set the date when the watch still running. If you pull it out to the 3rd step it stops and you can set the time.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

Do you any more questions?

1) Not really - Omega have integrated it into their gent's quartz movements, as well as their new cal. 8500 movement. However, having the jump hour hand compromises having a truly quickset date (instead of instantly flicking over the date on the first crown setting, you have to spin the hour hand 24 hours), so you can have one or the other. If I'm honest, I think the jump hour feature is more useful than a true quickset date.

2) The cal. 3135 has no hour jump, but has a regular quickset date

3) The new Explorer II will be using a cal. 3186, so it will indeed have the jump hour feature. You will be able to track 2 timezones on it

Generally we call quick set the ability of almost every Rolex date models to change date quickly from position 2 of the crown. (I said "almost" because this feature was implemented for each model at different time by modifying their actual caliber).

What YOU call quick set will be implemented in the new Explo2 of course (question 3.), but isn't part of any other caliber capability, including 3135 of the new Sub-C (question 2.).
Only 3085/3185/3186/3187 calibers have this capability, and they're used in all GMT2 and Explo2 models.

Question 1. , I don't know.

Yeah, I'm sorry, should have been more specific with my terminology. What I call the quick-set is the ability to move the hour hand in one-hour increments by pulling the stem out to the first click (if I remember correctly). I'm glad to hear the new EX II will have it though!!!
