16610 Submariner or Steel/WG Datejust?
For many years I've admired the simple Steel Datejust Rolex. Because I like the look of the fluted bezel, the model that appeals to me is the 116234 Steel, WG fluted bezel, Silver Dial, Stick Hands, Oyster Bracelet.
While I think this watch is a classic, so is the 16610 Submariner. So which should I get? I like the durability and ruggedness of the Sub. But I like the fact that the Datejust is a bit more low key and less common (at least in the specific configuation that I mentioned). I suspect the resale value would be better on the Sub -- maybe much better! This would be a daily user for me, by the way. I'm not a diver but pretty active. Average size (6' 180 lb) but wrist is just under 7". So what do ya think? John |

Very different watches...both GREAT! Really is a personal decision.
Go to as many dealers as you can to keep trying both on (not sure how many will still have the 16610 though) and you will know which to go with! |

Very difficult choice.
DJ and DD are one of my favorites al-dough at the moment I own 2 subs. Take both if you can.

I'd go for the 16610, if for no other reason than it can be used in any setting. Good luck with your decision!

Both great, the Sub more versatile. I've seen it look great with a suit, tux, or tshirt. The DJ may look a tad out of place with casual clothes.

Either one would be a great choice. Just make sure you get the one you like the most.

resale will be better with the sub. I found the 116234 to be too dressy for my taste.

Do you want a more sporty look or more dressy? The sub may hold value slightly better, but I doubt there will be a lot in it compared to a modern DJ.
I'm with you when you say you won't see many DJ's in the same config compared to the sub. Good luck. Here's my DJ. |

I disagree with those who think the all stainless look doesn't work in a more casual setting. |

It's all subjective... One might equally hold the view that the DJ looks fine with casual wear, and that the Sub may look a tad out of place with formal clothes.

Fair enough, thats a thought Ive always had... But once you see James Bond sporting a Sub or similar looking Omega with a suit and tux, 'common sense' goes out the window?

Tough choice but I will need to lean towards the 16610. As mentioned, it's more versatile.
Good luck! |
