Cyclops Removal
I'm really starting to like the sub date however the cyclops is a real turn off for me, I've seen a few photos without a cyclops over the date, does that require a new crystal without a cyclops or can the cyclops be removed?

Cyclops is glued on and can be removed. Follow the removal direction in the link below:

There's a youtube video that shows you how. Just do a quick search. It looks relatively easy but obviously some risks invovled.

sweet! thanks! by the way, what happens when you send in a watch to RSC with the cyclops taken off? do they return the watch to its original look with the cyclops or do they say the watch has been altered and return it to you unserviced? also i'm assuming doing this voids the warranty you get with rolex assuming you buy brand new?

That's what I was afraid of... Thanks! Do they always have to "fix" what is "broken"? I saw a preowned vintage sub from the 60s a couple of days ago, it had great patina except the hands were brand new which was weird... The seller said that apparently RSC replaced the original hands with new ones during a regular servicing.

Why not just get a Sea-Dweller? 16600 reference, granted that the dial diameter is smaller compared to the 16610 (slightly).

I thought they made an exception for the lack of cyclops

Best bet is to call one of the RSC's to inquire.

If you mean the current Sub C 116610 then don't do it. There is an antireflective treatment under the cyclops (and beneath the crystal), so you will be left with a cyclops-shaped mark on the crystal
Older Subs (16610, 16800, etc) then no problem Or just buy a Sea-Dweller instead ...or a no-date Sub ?

Why potencially ruin a Sub.... Buy a SD instead.

That's the way they maintain brand integrity.

I removed the cyclops on my GMT master, and it's been in to service at RSC New York. i just explained in my request for service that I wanted a crystal without a cyclops if they had to replace the crystal during the service. They put a new no-cyclops crystal in without issue.

Rolex WILL services watches with removed cyclops or a SD4000 with a cyclops added. This isn't anything they are picky about. I know both of these to be fact. Both were serviced at RSC NYC. The SD even had the crystal replaced with a crystal with a cyclops. You have to make sure you tell them or it will comeback stock.

wow - I really didnt realize the cyclops was actually stuck on. I'm not sure what I thought or even whether I did think about it --- but now I'm really glad I got my wife the Airking without cyclops as I just know she would have damaged it.
