1942-43 Rolex???

I've had in my possession a Mens Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust for a year now....bequeathed from an estate.

Case Ref # 6605
S/N# at 6:00 position #266693

From what I've gathered on Rolex S/N's...this number should date it at around 1942-43.....correct? If not...what year is it?

The crystal....seems to be plastic & is quite scratched with a small crack in it. The watch itself winds & seems to run fine.

It came with a cedar lined green box...that had a business card promotional piece within it....I love this statement:

"The "Rolex" sticker on the inside lid of this box may easily be removed.
With its special cedar lining, your Rolex watch box will prove an excellent cigarette container for home or office. "

:):):)

I'll try & get some pictures posted.....

Am considering getting it restored.

Look forward to the pics... Hopefully parts are still available for your vintage Rolex. Also, hopefully the dial is still in decent shape. Original is good.... Welcome

Wow... looks like a crystal, bezel, polish and tuneup and you'll have a fantastic example of a classic, war-vintage watch. I'm sure others, more knowledgeable than I, will have more savvy suggestions regarding restoration. Very nice...

Most probably a 6605 with the cal 1065, 1800Bph movement from very late 1950s to mid 1960s definitely not 1940s

Padi, yes I believe Rolex did not start having date features on their watches until the late 1940s, correct? (I know the date feature was not added to the Submariner until 1967)

Yep! That number is very consistent with the late 50s to 60s after Rolex hit one million in the early 50s and started over.

Might try one of the Independent Rolex Service Centers. To my knowledge RUSA won't touch a 1065.

Last I checked (a while ago) Chicago had them---312-782-7768.

LOL! Just noticed you're in Canada--Chicago might be a little tough.

Yep....your right....I've found that it's probably from 1955 to 58.....conflicting sources as to exact date.

The Datejust was not out until 1945.

This latest info makes more sense in attempting to validate it more...as my Uncle (actually my wifes Uncle) was very young during the war, just married...no job & probably could not afford one until much later in the 50's or 60's.

So...with that said...I'm being told that Rolex Service will not touch it.

Any recommendations as to who I should talk with in regards to getting this piece back to working order? Sources in the US are fine...I'll use whomever I feel comfortable working with.

Thanks again everyone....

nice vintage... Rolex started over with ~200,000 in 1955 so I would narrow it down to 1956 but perhaps sold as late as 1957/58.

The cyclops came out in 1954, but I think it was optional for a while....

I don't think that the Toronto RSC has issues with vintage pieces.. you might give them a call

Well....a 57' Rollie has a nice ring to it :):):)

Does anyone have the email for Toronto RSC? Unable to locate it.

Imagine they prefer you call first.

Thanks again....
