Should I buy 16600 SD?

I'm looking at one, U serial in 'as new' condition. Do you think it's a good investment?

It this watch bigger than my existing Submariner Date 116610?

Like others before me have said" do not by a watch for investing . Yes the SD is bigger than the sub. Thicker both a 40mm I believe but the face/dial is smaller.

Wouldn't really call it an investment but SDs are unique so it will get a little harder to find like new examples which may have people asking ludicrous prices. There was one in the for sale section for $8Ks, no thanx.

They're both technically 40mm but the subs super case and maxi dial make it look bigger. The SD is thicker overall.

$5300 for a U is a little high. Might be about right in Europe. In 5 years it will be worth more. I like mine a lot.

I was comparing the price to others on the chrono24, it seemed reasonable, but I'm new at this. Are prices there too high?

Why are they harder to find. I am sure I understand why you said they are unique. We are just talking about a older sub with day on it correct. I may have misunderstood the watch y'all are talking about. I have been known to have a blonde moment.

Like new or NIB models will get harder to find because it is a watch that no longer is in production, so it is inevitable. We're talking about a SD not a sub.

I love my 16600 and I would say that the price is very good, not too good to be true, but very competitive. I paid £4.5k for my 2006 model recently which is about right for the UK...a 2008 model is up for £5.5k at my local AD.

As for it being an investment, I think it's a little foolish for people to say that you shouldn't buy a watch as an investment. I don't agree with that...as with any investment, there are no guarantees, but fine watches have proven to be a decent investment over many years if you buy the right one.

The 16600 is not a limited edition so it will never be worth millions, but as they have stopped making them and the Fact that the Deep Sea is not as popular with purists means that the SD has a very good chance of increasing in value over the years if properly looked after and serviced.

I like the fact that it has a presence on my wrist without being oversized, which is why I chose it over the SubC, I also like the fact that they are not as common.

Equally, I have friends with the SubC who much prefer their watch to mine...so all down to personal taste.

Agreed, had my SD4000 and traded it for my GMTc. Miss it like mad but love my Gmt. So the answer for me is get one asap. Its an awesome watch
