Ultrasonic Cleaners vs. Washing

Just wondering about the difference between sonic cleaning and regular soap and water. Is there really that much difference or can I get the same results with soap or other cleaners?

From the threads I've seen, the sonic seems pretty great.

Thanks!

The sonic is good because it can get in gaps that are impossible with a soft toothbrush.

Further, the sonic cleaner eliminates repeated (albeit light) abrasion from scrubbing bristles.

The greatest risk with sonics are the potential scratches you could inflict on the watch or bracelet yourself while removing and reinstalling the bracelet.

As 77T alluded to, ultra sonic cleaning is only recommended for the bracelet, not for the watch itself.

Thanks guys for the quick replies. I assume I would have to take off the bracelet to clean it in the sonic???

Yes, please do not place your head in the ultra, regardless of what system you have. Its only for the bracelet. I got one on Amazon for 25 bucks, added hot water, small amount of dish soap, and let it run for 2 hours the other day.

Same here. Mine came with a "watch accessory" that let's you place the watch out of the water, and submerges the bracelet. Works great and no taking the bracelet off.

How far can you submerge the bracelet, to the tip of the end-links?

I get pretty much all of it in there with the exception of a few links towards the lugs on either side.

I think it's best to remove the bracelet regardless of attachments

After removing the watch head, when it's time to re-attach it, do you have to put Loctite or something similar on, or is just reattaching it fine?

Just put the springbars back in place.

You mean Loctite into the lug hole? No. The spring bar ought to stay put. Many owners (including RSC) apply Loctite to the bracelet screw threading, however, to prevent the screws from insidiously working themselves out while walking a tight rope over the Grand Canyon.

Well, actually, you should not put any body parts in the machine, jajaja.

So, the idea goes much further than puting just your head in the cleaner...
