luminesence on Yachtmaster
I noticed my Yachtmaster number luminesence is great for a few hours, clear and easy to see, but after about 4-5 hours you have to look pretty closely to see the time, as the luminesence has faded. Did Rolex go to a different process, my old GMT worked fine, though, after about 8-9 years later it too was getting harder to read.

Sounds like your old GMT might have been Tritium (no longer used) and your new watch is Luminova (requires light to charge it). Lack of lume staying power is a known issue on many newer Rolex models. I have heard that improvements have been made, but I think other brands do a better job at this based on what I've read/seen.
I do know that in some extreme cases people have asked for a redial and that has helped, so if it's really bad you might want to consider that. |

My YM actually glows really well throughout the night. It is at least visible all night. The Panerai is by far the best, but the YM is more that good enough.
