Icon17 Speedmaster Co-Axial Chrono.. 44.25mm.. test drive

Been salivating over this and finally tried it on a few weeks back at my local Omega boutique.

In short, it's an overly cool watch.

Tried on Steel/Steel and Leather/Steel.

311.33.44.51.01.001
and
311.30.44.51.01.002

The benchmark of a tool watch and the cornerstone of what should form part of a watch collection has been taken to the next level.

The date and hour-hand-jump is sweeeeet

But goodness it is thick! It's like a gigantic macaroon.

Living in a cold and dark place where 2/3 layers of clothing is required for most parts of the year makes this a very impractical watch for me

Shame, as I had really looked forward to adding it to the collection.

But I did end up getting something Omega, will do an incoming later

Few snaps of this fine timepiece...

width is actually ok as the DSSD is approx 43.5mm

but the thickness is what kills it for me!

the sapphire caseback is really cool but the novelty will wear off after a while. it's not a sexy as a patek or ALS movement

Thickness because it is a superlative dive watch waterproof to 3900 meters is one thing. The same sickness and size because of... cannot come up with any other good reason than fashion.

I might be nit-picking but I would have owned this watch if it was 42 or 43mm instead of 44.25; and Omega kept the thickness at 13-14mm; and the sub-dials were slightly more centered or larger; and if they bracelet had some micro-adjustments.

I love the legibility, the matte dial; and the vintage vibe.

I love this watch, would own it, were it not a hockey puck.
Come on Omega, thin this thing out.
Fingers crossed that the Darkside OTM makes up for this in lighter weight.

Omega co-axial chronos are thick to begin with. Add that domed crystal and man, it would be huge!

Can't wait yo see what you have incoming? Speedy Pro perhaps????

Am I the only one who gets his shirts made with a greater circumference on the left cuff??

I happen to love the thickness - don't have this one (yet) - but I have the 9301 deville which is all case on the sides....fits nicely under my cuff...
(although had to tell my tailor to add 1 inch to the left rather than the usual 1/2 inch..)

This.

If Omega had made this watch in the classic size and thickness of the Speesmaster Pro, it would be on wrist right now instead of a SS Daytona (which I have come to appreciate more and more over the 6 months that I've had it).

I have not been able to look at the Speedmaster '57 which doesn't have the hockey puck issue. Maybe I'll like that one enough it consider purchasing.
