Rolex Datajust 178273 question?

My uncle just received one as a gift and it's supposed to be a boy size. I searched the forum, but I cannot find the retail price the watch. I have a few questions.

1. Is the watch a mens or womens watch?
2. What is the MSRP for mens and boys size?
3. and what's a true market value for this watch?( i read ppl can get up to 20% of the MSRP on Datajust)

Thank you for your help!

Hi ez,

According to the latest Rolex catalogue that I have, the 178273 has been classified as a mid-size watch. Diameter is 31 mm and lug width is 15 mm. It is a steel and gold version with Jubilee bracelet.

Since it's only a 31 mm, it would more than likely be more for a lady, but a lot of this size can be seen in Asian and Far East Asian countries like Hong Kong where people have a smaller bone structure and hence smaller wrists.

Not sure about the price, but with a size like this, you could push the AD for as much as 30% and see how it goes. This size is pretty popular in Asia and the Far East, but for most people it would be an awkwardly small size.

Thanks for the reply. You answered my questions well.

Can you tell me what the MSRP is?

And can you confirm that it is 18k gold AND Stainless Steel? The person who bought it for my uncle said it is 18k + SILVER?

And my last question is

Is there a Price difference between 31 mm and the regular Mens size?

Sorry for my ignorance, but this helps me alot.

Silver is no longer used in watches nowadays although there are some vintage models in silver (not sure about Rolex though). It is steel and 18 K gold only. Yes, there would be a price difference between the 31 mm and the regular men's size which is 36 mm, the latter being more expensive.

Regarding the price, here ya go, click on this link. It's a good one to check out prices and give you a very good idea about them: http://www.swissluxury.com/rolex-wat...ld-jubilee.htm

As you can see under "Mid-Size", the List Price is US$6,550.

I just checked the SWISSLUXURY.com website. They have seemed to be up to date on prices. Tey're listing two tonw 18k and stainless models at $6500 and offering a 10% discount in the 31mm size.
I just finished shopping for a sports model, every AD (even the ones in the casinos) were willing to take as much as 15 to 20 percent of of datejusts.

Yes, very good.
Thats an awful lot more that I got taken off of my gmt. Besides, as long as he enjoys the watch, almost any price is a good deal.

I think the "sjdj" stands for Stainless (or Steel) Jubilee (bracelet) Datejust.

JJ,
I see I fooled you, I'm just trying to stay on my best behavior til the new guy thing wears off. I'm sure I'll end up making that TOSSER list by my next watch acquisition!

By the way, thanks for the heads-up about the three hands lining up perfectly one under the other. Luckily the one my wife brought home for me did.

You'd have to be very unlucky if they don't. Rolex QC is pretty up to specs, but there have been a few occasions (especially with GMT-IIs and Exp-IIs) when the FOUR hands have not been synchronised to perfection.
